Thomas P 18,479
So this was one of the controversial album of the year nominations, but i gave it a listen and wow. It's one of the best albums I've heard in a really long time. It's like a soulful, jazzy Charli xcx record. It's chaotic, jarring, technically very thrilling, and just in general really well made. Jacob Collier has won 4 grammys in the past for his compositions, and I understand why. This album is probably the best composed album I've heard this year. I'm not at all upset at seeing it in the AOTY noms, I honestly think it deserves the recognition, but that's just my opinion. I think besides Folklore, and maybe Future Nostalgia, this is the best record nominated. Probably the best record from a musicianship standpoint as well. Sidenote: I also really loved the HAIM album, its been one of my favourites of the year since its release. I've also been somewhat enjoying the Black Puma's record, but I need to give it some more time I think. The only albums I don't enjoy out of the crop are Hollywood's Bleeding and Everyday Life. Iâm a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill. Lion Heart 15,041
I listened to 5 or 6Â songs and stopped. I couldn't finish it. I'm struggling to understand the praise for this album. The majority of the songs feel unfinished or repetitive. I sincerely don't get it. âââââââââââââââââââââââââ
James Gibson 3,500
This is a fantastic album. The Jacob and Black Pumas noms were beyond inspired as it gives visibility to these artists. Yet, people shouldnt act like this is "grammys just picking what they like, no politics involved". This is def politics cause including many unknown or big artists with no hype (coldplay) in these big categories are just fillers for the actual people they think it'll win (taylor or dua). It's a bittersweet situation, but at least gave some spotlight to this artist in the way.
memomemome 1,478
I can't stop thinking that it sounds like music theorist flirting  but really though it's a pretty mindblowing composition. at some point I'm glad there are some representation in jazz/classical field in general field. Though itâs truly fantastic to see nominations for pretty unknown and obscure artists (as this is a major player in boosting careers of deserving people) it undermines the process cause there is clearly behind the scenes work at hand. H.E.R. is a brilliant musician imo, but she truly shouldnât have wracked up as much love as she has over the last 3 years. Iâm happy to see it, but it felt icky the second she got her first album of the year nomination. Iâm a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill. Ever since general field categories expanded to 8 nominees they added some very interesting picks in the line-up. But at the same time they made it less competitive cause once we see the nominations and theres only 2-3 huge artists, we know whos winning in the end. Somehow it made it more populist.
