After all this award bickering it is clear that awards are just useless, time consuming, expensive vanity and no matter which way it swings some people are going to scream biased. yeas the blatantness of this year was quite insulting, but I’d be happy to do away all of this vapid credentials altogether. Obviously that’s not gonna happen because ‘prestige’ and ‘artistic integrity’ are the only things to counter complete domination of ‘sales and popularity’ - the latter of which can be objectively measured while the former can’t.

It’s actually fine since at that time, Arcade Fire’s album is actually really good and cohesive. Of course personally i prefer TFM.

 

What I’m really depressed about was BR not getting its ROTY and SOTY nomination and award. 

There’s no other song on the top of chart that is similar to BR at that time.

I was surprised too that BR did not get a nomination for ROTY and SOTY. They probably did want her to have AOTY, ROTY, and SOTY nominations in two consecutive years.

I mean the charts... Ok... Charts and grammies and ****. Maybe we should all make a crowdfunding and melt a proper five-con award and send it to G and it will worth all the grammies in the world ?

but ppl need to understand award shows do not follow a scientific method, ‘best’ has a general definition and awards are not handed out on merit alone. There is a lot of other factors.

it’s like the judging on drag race, the queen that wins/loses is not necessarily the best/worst. Things like attitude, personality, history, societal implications, trends, etc are all considered, and not the same way all the time

Once you understand this awards also feel less important/meaningful.

All of this is true. BUT... when an award wants to be known as the most prestigious honor in a creative industry, selected by a prestigious panel of industry "experts" (essentially "king makers"); they have an obligation to show taste and discernment in their considerations. After all the rounds of voting, if an artists' work is completely unrecognized, than the recognized work needs to be arguably "better".

This year, the experts essentially said that nothing on The Weekends After Hours album was better than Justin Biebers Yummy  You can't be taken seriously when your selection process is making statements like this to artists and listeners. 

Yeah, awards shows are bs but being bestowed an honor recognizing your artistry --placing you in the same class as your idols-- in front of your family, peers and the entire world, means something. 

Grammys need to do better or they're gonna lose their place. Even Drag Race adjusted when they picked the wrong queen.
