Debute comparison: æspa vs BLACKPINK

With SM's latest girlgroup æspa already being compared to YG's BLACKPINK, the situation is bound to pick up some heat and tention within the K-Pop fandoms.

Instead of focusing on the similarities of the groups, I would like to have your opinion on which debute you enjoy more and why.

BLACKPINK's debute:

Views in 24h: 3,33m

 

æspa's debute:

Views in 24h: 11m (still counting)

 

Personally, I am a bigger fan of Boombayah. However I am very curious to see wether the whole K/DA thing (the animated versions of the æspa members) will work or not. The reason why the K/DA group worked so well for League of Legends is probably because of the already existing K-Pop and gaming community League of Legends has.

Because there is a whole process before debut, it's not like my debut is dropping tomorrow have fun. They release concept photos, teaser and aespa had like video teasers for each member, and some people stan the kpop companise (SM in this case)

SM Entertainment is one of the biggest, if not the biggest record label in the kpop industry. If you know anything about kpop, their responsible for EXO, NCT, Girls Generation, Red Velvet, and other successful groups. Labels are generally seen as pretty important in the kpop industry, and this is the first girl group from the label in 6 years. They also promoted them for like a month before the video even came out, so even if you weren't necessarily stanning them most kpop fans were interested.

 

To answer the OP, I think I prefer Black Mamba but tbh neither are my favs. I'm looking forward to see where Aespa goes from here tho!

I think Boombayah hits harder, and really showcases the 4 members clearly. Black Mamba is good, but not a smash imo. Still, I'm interested to see where they will go.

I think the hype for BP was a lot bigger and Boombayah hits way harder but I Aespa still has my attention.

Also, I do not think they are comparable at all.

Because big labels have people's interest. Many of these K-Pop group members already got stans during their trainee days who anticipating and cheering for them to debut.

BOOMBAYAH peaked at #7 on Gaon and #1 on Billboard World Digital Song, the MV already reached 1Billion views after 4 years. Flopstin could never with only peaking at #49 on Gaon, #11 on Billboards World Digital Song, and the MV only got 300M views after 3 years 

Their disband were already the writings on the wall for them after this.

I think BP hype was bigger cuz 2NE1 was the only girlgroup from YG and 2ne1 was the highest charting kpop group in the US at the time.

I think what makes Blackpink interesting is that you have 4 very distinct personalities with 4 very distinct voices that work well together, and the girls all have a high level of charisma and stage presence. 

Aespa on the other hand seems to have very similar looks and similar voices.   I like the harder edge in their music, but I'm not sure I see people latching onto them as they have Blackpink.  That video is cool but does nothing to tell you what each individual performer is about.

No doubt the individual personalities shine more for BlackPink in Boombayah.
