This spin from monsters that Madonna was the one that started the comparisons is ridiculous and completely untrue. As soon as BTW premiered, the press compared it to Express Yourself and called it a rip off. Madonna only commented on it almost a year later, and specifically when she was asked about it. But Gaga also returned to it years later in 5F2, with one of the first clips shared to promote the film being the one where she talks about the supposed feud. I’m sure she wanted everything to happen, but things change. After ARTPOP, she knows not to promise anything to us. With a backdrop illustrating ‘little monsters’ eating recyled iconography in cans from other artists... calling someone else’s work ‘reductive’ even though the same chord progression was used in countless 80s songs... Madonna’s entire MDNA era was predicated on the ‘Gaga feud’ without it nobody outside of her own fan base would have even known about the album. She knew exactly what she was doing... it would be naive to think otherwise. The songs similarities to ‘express yourself’ are weak at best, 4 chord progression you can find on any other major song from that era? Madonna capitalised of belittling another artist and going so far as to do it on tour with an offensive backdrop, it was cringe as f**k.
