But the other ones are just too bland for me. I like some Bee Gees stuff and ABBA and the occasional tune here and there (I'm So Excited is a banger, Rasputin is probably one of the most sophisticated disco songs of all time and Le Freak is a campy delight). I heard a really obscure track last year called Wear It Out by Stargard that was surprisingly good. What you'll notice is that the ones I like are the ones with good vocals where the artist sounded really into it and that have a very solid beat where dance moves come naturally. 1 hour ago, Runway said: Because critics are old and in the 70’s disco was what they danced to in clubs But there's good and bad in every genre. These critics seem to like every piece of disco offered to them and I struggle to believe they're all equally into it. 1 hour ago, f r i c z k o said: Todays electronic music, club music, and even big portion of pop comes from disco. Its the root of most of dance music. Just because it doesnt inspire you it doesnt mean anything, disco is also quite complex in composition so saying the beat is devoid is interesting to hear as most of the chord progressions, rhythm, the syncopations, harmonies are quite outstanding and the amount of work that was put into writing disco is crazy. Disco is also quite meaningful in its context and its history is quite important so it might be something that you did not really go into to fully appreciate it in its full existence. That's the ironic thing, some things can take so much effort but come out not that amazing whereas the most effortless things can appear complicated. I'm really not bothered about its origins or history, I'm just bothered as to how it sounds. I find it odd that people try to defend a genre by saying it's so influential and suchlike - how does that make me enjoy its output anymore? Disco is meant to make you want to dance so when the vast majority of it doesn't make me want to do so, it makes it seem like a failure to me. I can see why it was abandoned in the 70's and left there for years. Many people still consider it nothing more than a fad that lasted one decade. It's beyond me why anyone thought to bring it back. 1 hour ago, giskardsb said: Disco is Funk without Soul. Perfect summation! I can get down to funk as that has a real groove but disco is like someone took funk and squeezed all the fun and personality out of it. 25 minutes ago, gypsy101 said: i don’t think they do? Better Day 5,766
This revival of the disco has made me actually listen and look forward to new albums something that has never happened before. Disco always makes me happy and my most love and listened to genre. Most of the older songs I listen too is disco/dance songs. Long May this era live! Together You And I! As usual, pop music watered down the pure thing and took all the swing out of it. I mean, there is no comparison IMO, Funk is where it's at.

HotLikeMexico 5,115
I love how disco is getting appreciated now and getting re-evaluated. Funny how back when it first started, it was loathed as one of the worst genres ever. I think Daft Punk with RAM helped start the resurgence in the modern era. "I find it odd that people try to defend a genre by saying it's so influential and suchlike - how does that make me enjoy its output anymore? " Also the last century was gradually breaking away from conservative norms of what music should be like. So knowing that yes, it adds to the experience for me for you it doesnt haha, its simple as that " Disco is meant to make you want to dance so when the vast majority of it doesn't make me want to do so..... ,Many people still consider it nothing more than a fad that lasted one decade" it makes me wanna dance again its how you wanna look at it, just because many people dont like it doesnt mean its essentially meaningless or not enjoyable as many other people do enjoy it. same amount of people dislike pop music or Gaga. Im saying this from a music producer perspective as I am studying music and have been writing for the past 8 years, Knowing the work and complexity, to me it makes it more amazing on top of the joy and freedom it gives me with its uplifting positive lyrics. Anyway, i dont wanna babble, but you were expressing your point of view so ofcourse people will tell you what is there for them that they like. Without this we wouldnt have a conversation but you would be just expressing your dislike and not really look for understanding. Hope my point of view helped a bit to understand why it might be coming back. Also eras constantly repeat lately 70-80s have been popping up, its just how we work as human beings. Jessie Ware’s newest album really is amazing, been listening to it the last couple of days on repeat!! I already said in an additional post that there are good disco tunes, they're just few and far between. And Jessie's album is definitely one of the best of the year, although still not a masterpiece in my mind. It's probably one of the few times I like nu-disco. I have opened my mind to listening to different types of disco, that's how I came to the conclusion that I didn't like it, after all. I didn't just hear a handful of songs and decided my opinion based completely on that. 7 hours ago, f r i c z k o said: "some things can take so much effort but come out not that amazing " I understand but that is your opinion still that its not amazing, it just simply means you dont like it, so spending time on thinking why it is coming back and why people like it is then not really benefiting you does it? I just need more explanation of why you like it other than it makes you want to dance. Give me specific examples and point out specific sections. It's too vague to merely say you like it and leave it at that. I'm an amateur music reviewer and have been since 2011, so I'm used to hearing all different genres by all different singers all the time, so I've seen the full gamut of what music has to offer, so I get what you say when you're studying music and the complexity of it. But my research of all the music out there just makes disco stand out to me as the one that just isn't as good by comparison. I mean, even my parents sometimes see clips of old programmes from when they were growing up back in the 70's and wonder what the hell everyone was thinking and why they liked this back then.
