If covid was as deadly as ebola, I suspect your anti vaxxers and your reluctant vaxxers would join the vaxx queue like everyone else.

Whole world???

No, it's a competition and nobody is helping anyone as they fight for their share of OUR money. That's why I'm not keen on taking 1st generation of vaccine.

They don't do charity, vaccine is strictly business for them.

Exactly. How do people not get that? This virus was the opportunity of a lifetime for pharmaceutical companies, they're gonna make billions of dollars from this vaccine. It's all about the money for them. Listen, I really, REALLY want to believe this vaccine is 100% safe with little to no side effects. Even without all the conspiracy theories about the chips in the vaccine to control the entire human race and stuff, the fact remains, they had to rush to make it because the whole world is in crisis and we want to put an end to it ASAP. They didn't start from scratch, they built on previous research on other coronaviruses, that much is true. But you can't blame people for being skeptical when a vaccine is about to come out after less than a year when they usually take years to perfect. I mean, they commercialize drugs that have known adverse effects, and you're trying to tell me that they wouldn't put out something that's not 100% safe? Come on now.. I'm as tired of this pandemic as much as the rest of you but let's be real for a minute. Adverse effects in the long term are very much within the realm of possiblity.

ADVIL is not 100% safe. Tylenol is not 100% safe. Claritin is not 100% safe. Losartan is not 100% safe. A flu shot is not 100% safe. Alcohol is not 100% safe. Eating french fries is not 100% safe. Going to Lady Gaga concert is not 100% safe. Crossing the street is not 100% safe. Breathing is not 100% safe.  I can get "adverse effects" from *LITERALLY* all of the above, possibly life-threatening.

No matter what, life is not 100% safe.

And there are industries that make a lot of money from ALL of the above medicines/activities. It doesn't make what they do nefarious.

We're talking about a vaccine that would decimate a strain of a disease that has killed SO many people globally and devastated world economies, driven up suicide rates, etc. You have the opportunity to make the world at large *exponentially safer* by taking it.

I don't mean to fight with you. I just don't see how folks can't grasp this.

Ebola: 11,323 deaths, isolated pandemic in only 3 countries in Africa, 2014-2016.

Covid-19: 1.32 Millions deaths worldwide as of Nov 16 2020

Which one is more deadly again??? :oprah:

so much for democracy Miss Jill Biden

lol do you even know what democracy means? If you kill someone, would you argue against them being put in jail because "uhh, muh democracy"? In order to be truly free you'll have to be sure that no person presents a willing risk to another person. That's exactly what antivaxxers are: a risk to other people. It's not a matter of opinion, this is not a discussion about our favorite colors or numbers. It's about the lives of people. It's obvious you have no clue what you're talking about.

Former First Lady of the United States. Now card-carrying member of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Ebola is a lot more deadly. If you get ebola, there is a strong chance that it will kill you. It is nowhere near as infectious as covid though.

My point is that if there was an outbreak of a disease which was as infectious as covid and which killed, let's say 80%, of the people who caught it, all the principled ojections and hesitations about vaccines would go out the window.

Every person has the right and freedom of thought, belief, possessing a political opinion, the choice to fulfil or not to fulfil the requirements of his chosen religion. Nobody can dominate other opinions and consciences.

That's true democracy. If the majority get vaccinated, as WHO said many times which is 60%, the governement cannot come in people's houses and force a needle into their arms. That's something China would do for example. I can tell you as a french person, it'll never happen here. Freedom is instilled in the values

Funny thing: when a disease afects straight people they can elaborate a vaccine in more or less two years. Why can't they develop a vaccine for HIV in 40 years?

Why can't they develop vaccines for diseases that affect underdeveloped countries?

I am authistic, so don't be offended if I make a mess sometimes.

HIV isn't really comparable to covid,  covid is a far simpler virus to understand. HIV is incredibly insidious and it hides itself deep within cells mainly the white blood cell called a T cell, antiretroviral meds can suppress it within the cell and stop it from multiplying, but because HIV doesn't destroy the T cell it attaches to it. It makes it very very difficult to completely eradicate it.

OT - anti vaxxers can rot. I've already had a text from my GP about the vaccine and ill be getting it as soon as I can.

I know all that, but it's been 40 years, 40 years. We needed to have more progress by now.

But at least we have prep and pep.

I get what you mean but we haven't had the tech we do now for 40 years, anti viral meds is a huge leap forward. And there has been 3 cases of a complete eradication of the disease in humans. I think it'll be cured within the next decade.
