I would just play with the joke instead of feeling bad about it. Objectively, it didn’t look great so, better make lemonade with those lemons and move on.

Yes and that’s exactly what she says on the interview:

I don't even understand that expectation for pop singers to be able to dance and claiming their shows are bad and they don't have stage presence if they're not dancing or their dancing is bad (I'm not talking about her here, I never saw her performances and I don't know whether she does have a stage presence or not outside of dancing). Even for pop, you can do a great show that doesn't require the singer dancing.

I think people spew a lot of rudeness at pop stars and it's totally fair for them to make emotional appeals like this, to remind people that they are still human beings. There's definitely different levels of severity to people's negativity and in the context of the things people have said about Britney (circa 2007), Gaga, Beyonce, Madonna, etc., trolling Dua for one embarrassing gif is probably not "that bad". But it doesn't sound like she's trying to make it seem super tragic. I personally think when it comes to criticisms about stage presence like this, they can be constructive. It does seem like Dua has taken some notes between her debut and FN.

She has a point. Ive seen her live and she had HELLA stage presence and star power. The video was memed and taken out of context. I don’t think it’s unfair of her to speak about it bc I appreciate when artists engage on socials with their fans, and the fact that she saw those memes and that sh** proves that she at least listens to what people have to say.

eh i get it. she just has to do her thing and really hire someone to do all her social media stuff so she doesn't have to see the nonsense that goes on there. when you're a public figure, it just comes with the territory this criticism :selena:

People: celebrities are not gods they are human just like us and therefore they are subject to teasing and bullying just like we are. no one's perfect.

also people: umm? they're famous, they're global superstars, they shouldn't feel offended by bullying like we are or talk about their feelings when they're so above us wtf.

Boohoo, you're an artist, people will criticize you. They'll criticize your performances, your voice, your albums, your songs, your lyrics, your videos and so on and so forth. If you're not strong enough to take it maybe stay off social media like Selena Gomez did. And crying about it to the press is classless. You never hear about Gaga crying that people don't like her outfits or choreos or performances just saying

This is so rude. Artists are allowed to have feelings. And humans are allowed to complain. It’s not classless, it’s honest. Have some decency. Just saying.

The one piss is all it takes moment was just her time to grow as an artist. You can't be a flawless performer from the start. You have to grow. It's just sad that so many people were so fixated on that facet eventho the rest she was doing was rlly good

I have always said it, the problem was not her, the problem was her choreographer, honestly worst choreos I've ever seen. I'm glad she came back with FN and proved everyone wrong, cuz' the choreos this era have been fire :firega: and she's killing it.

i dont mind her sharing that because I can only imagine how tumultuous it can be. For us it seems like just a lighthearted meme joke but for an artist it must feel like the public telling you your artistry is not good enough and some artists can let that destroy them BUT Dua chose to actually take that and make it a learning experience and now she is a lot better on stage. She worked on her dancing a lot more and it shows. I'm actually loving how she does not have a defeatist attitude. Is she sulking now? yeah sure but for us it seems like nothing to sulk over but for a public figure sometimes even small critcisms, or viral jokes can seem like a hate campaign.

it's not that serious ma

like she really didn't perform that well before the future nostalgia era, like does she want us to lie to her or something?

then because of all these criticism, her performances improved tremendously during the FN era

those yelling the loudest about artists needing a "thick skin" to put up with it are quite likely the same people who want the freedom to insult people at will.   It's all part of toxic stan culture and it helps nobody.   And lets not pretend its "constructive" criticism because we've all seen the way 99% of complaint posts are worded.
