The pooled surveys were conducted on a total of 24,970 participants; on average only 58% (n=14 365/24 970) of responders across Europe were willing to get a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine once it becomes available, 16% (n=3998/24 970) were neutral, and 26% (n=6607/24 970) were not planning to vaccinate against SARS-CoV-2. Such a low vaccination response could make it exceedingly difficult to reach the herd immunity threshold for SARS-CoV-2 through vaccination.

Im in America. I typically get vaccinated, but the COVID one is more worrisome because of how rushed they are. There’s no understanding of the long-term effects.

 

back in the days, they gave pregnant women Thalidomide for nausea and thought it was safe. Then after a while, they realized that the medication lead to women giving birth to babies with missing limbs.

I believe that is baseless fear in modern days like this.

Do you know that new versions of the regular flu vaccines are developed twice a year, as the influenza virus rapidly changes?

Please educate yourself before saying things like this.

Scientists and virologists working directly with the COVID-19 vaccine already had the groundwork done from other coronaviruses, such as MERS and SARS.

This takes years off development time. Virologists don’t have to spend precious time researching the virus, because we already know how it behaves. This way they can use existing vaccine methods to produce a formula we know wont be harmful in the long run. 

Additionally, you can’t compare the Thalidomide tragedy to modern day vaccines. The lack of knowledge on illnesses 60 years ago, yet alone vaccines, antibiotics, and retroviral drugs is not the same as it is today. Medical science has improved drastically since then. We’ve seen countless cures and treatments without side effects for so many diseases since the 1950s. Singling out one instance from 60 years ago to say vaccines can be scary is a fearmongering and anti-science stance. Please don’t use extremely rare situations like this as a platform.

 

TL/DR: The reason the vaccine is being made so quickly is because coronaviruses aren’t exactly a new thing. We already have years of research from similar viruses that took years off development time.

Please point out where I said COVID-19 behaves like SARS and MERS. I literally said they are coronaviruses, just like COVID-19 is. That is a fact.

Also, it’s quite funny you are using your (imaginary?) degree as a platform against this conversation, when in-fact anyone with an actual science or medical degree has declared their support for the Pfizer vaccine results.

Furthermore, if you are truly someone studying to be a doctor of medicine, you would completely understand that science doesn’t care about ‘differing viewpoints’.

The pfizer phase 3 study has 43,000 people. Other phase 3 studies have at least 30,000.  Assuming the public is given access to read the test results, I would happily get the vaccine if it hasn't caused any major problems. I get a flu vaccine every year.

I agree with your point. There's a theory that HIV came from the first rounds of the Polio vaccine so I'm waiting a year before getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
