Until then, I look at it this way:  If you had a deck of 10 cards and one of them is a death card, and if you pick the death card you die, would you play and pick a card if you didn't have to?  After the disease has been virtually eliminated in the public, then the odds of survival is much better.

what you said was a criticism of the 90% ("not enough"), which is actually better than what anyone could have hoped for. i understand your position, but the problem you are pointing to is just distribution and getting people vaccined (in other words, time), not the 90% figure. this is great news.

Because if there's a 10% chance of adverse side effects, idk. I can't see that being the case.

Effective =/= Safe. But we do know this vaccine is safe, as the lack of side effects has proved so far.

It’s roughly 90% effective. Meaning approx 90 out of 100 people will be immune to the virus after both doses have been administered; which is about 28 days after the first dose.

It also means that roughly 10 out of 100 people will have no immune response to the vaccine, meaning it will be like they never got injected in the first place.

As far as I know, there hasn’t been any side effects worth being concerned about. So regardless if you’re part of the 90% or the 10%, the vaccine will be more than safe inside you. It just depends on if you’ll be immune. But in any case, a 90% effective rate will definitely destroy this virus once 50% of the population is vaccinated.

Of course I can say I’m over it and not want to get a vaccine. You can’t tell people how to feel. It usually takes at least two years to formulate a safe and effective vaccine, so perhaps I want to make sure it’s safe before I inject myself with a vaccine that’s been rushed. Thanks.

First of all it's not about your feelings, it's about everyone's safety. You're clearly not worried about the rushed vaccine since you very blatantly said you never got a flu shot. The vaccine is not rushed (hence why it won't be available widely before 2021) and the fact that it's been constructed so fast goes back, as it has been pointed out in this thread, to the fact that SARS is not a new thing and its structure has been know for years. So no, you can't say you're over the pandemic then refuse to contribute to ending it because you don't do vaccines, thanks.

I was very excited about this because the results are so promising but this piece of information is sort of concerning:

"Low-income countries could face problems, however, because the vaccine needs ultra-cold chain; it must be stored at -70C."

I mean this vaccine will be hella difficult to distribute.

Hopefully this will stop the pandemic and life go back to normal. 
 

However, I won’t be taking it because Boris Johnson, Trump, & Putin will have had their hands all over it and I don’t trust them.

Good luck to you. I said I didnt really trust the vaccine, either, and basically got dragged by others who have a hard time accepting other peoples’ opinions on here.

this sounds promising. but we shouldn’t get our hopes up just yet, or think we are gonna get the vaccines anytime soon. we are nowhere near the end of this pandemic.

most vaccine production isn’t expected to start releasing to the public till early 2021, and even then healthcare workers, vulnerably ill and elderly people will get the vaccine first (for obvious reasons). then they’ll have to make billions more of them for the generally healthy public. this could take over a year, even YEARS potentially.

so at this point we can see 2022/23 being better than what we expected. there’s no way 2021 will be covid-free. 2020 was the year we had to learn about this virus and endure the worst part of it, my prediction for 2021 is that we will use what we’ve learnt this year to combat the virus to the point where we can live somewhat normal as possible lives, whilst the vaccine gets distributed. this could even continue into 2022.

either way if a good chunk of the world is vaccinated this could ideally achieve the heard immunity that quarantine and social distancing have failed to do (not saying they haven’t helped of course). for now, keep up the social distancing, masks and hand washing. we have come this far and we only need to get through 2021 to finally make it!

People are tired and mentally drained by this whole pandemic and if positive news come they will 100% rather believe them (it's not necesarilly people being agressive for the sake of it). Not to say that still taking things with a graint of salt isn't the best thing to do.
