Covid-19 vaccine candidate is 90% effective

"A vaccine against Covid-19 is in sight, with the announcement of the first interim results in large-scale trials showing the Pfizer/BioNTech candidate is 90% effective, according to the manufacturers, whose analysis shows a much better performance than most experts had hoped for.

The high percentage of those protected makes the findings compelling. Regulators have said they would approve a vaccine that is just 50% effective – protecting half those who get it. The company says there have been no serious side-effects."

is 90% enough tho? :yennefer:

The regulators will approve a vaccine that is 50% effective for now because it would reduce the pandemic by a LOT, so 90% is more than great. Vaccines are never 100% effective.

Of course it is. Even if half of the population were inmune, the disease would disappear

Let’s hope. I’m so over this pandemic. I’ve never had a flu vaccine, so I don’t think I’d get this one either, but hopefully it’s safe and effective for the people who want it.

You're asking LM on GGD, not even 99,9% is enough for them :bear:

This is amazing news.

Hopefully by the middle of next year we can try and get back to having a somewhat semi-normal society.

Distribution and "who gets it first" is going to be SUCH a political nightmare.

We only need 70% for herd immunity

You can't say you're over this pandemic then refuse to get a vaccine that helps end this pandemic. Get vaccinated, it's good for you and everyone around you (and the planet)
