Covid immune response faster and stronger post-infection, scientists say

Scientists have found the strongest evidence yet that people who recover from Covid may mount a much faster and more effective defence against the infection if they encounter the virus again.

Researchers at Rockefeller University in New York found that the immune system not only remembered the virus but improved the quality of protective antibodies after an infection had passed, equipping the body to unleash a swift and potent attack if the virus invaded a second time.

“It’s very good news,” said Michel Nussenzweig, the head of molecular immunology at Rockerfeller and a senior author of the study.

It is unclear how long the immune system’s memory might last, but Nussenzweig said it could potentially provide some protection for years. The discovery may explain why verified re-infections from the virus are so far quite rare.

These reports are pointless with “could potentially provide some protection for years”. We’ve heard this for months. People will read this and think that if they get the virus they’ll be at ease after recovering once. People should still wear their mask and practice social distancing

Did you read the entire article though? I get being annoyed at this point by the entire pandemic but statements are not pointless just because they are speculative. How are they going to study this disease if not by making assumptions and hypotheses based on what we already know? Literally there is no other way. Nobody in that article remotely implied that masks or social distancting should be abolished.

Im not talking about myself being annoyed, but others. Obviously the disease should be studied. I’m more worried about people who will read this and get a false sense of security if they get the virus or have already have it thinking they do not need to be as cautious. Sorry, I didn’t explain that better initially

Some people still have gotten it, survived, and the second time around they're in ICU. There's no way to know how you specificly will react to it, even young people are dying without pre-existing conditions.

The head of my department at university got it. She said she slept like the dead for like five days, but it was okay otherwise. It is crazy how different it is for different people. Like, I have no trust whatsoever in my luck

This is typically how immune responses are though for literally all non-novel infections? Literally the principle of vaccines. Your body receives a killed virus strain to basically 'practice' on, so it's able to effectively disable a live form if you're ever infected with it.
