She performed it twice on political events but why. I thought it was a personal song for her, maybe it wasn’t anymore when she released it as a single but why is you and I a good song to perform at political events

I mean it’s a love song, maybe it’s because of the country sound and the fact that it’s a hit from Gaga’s catalogue but idk what about songs on Joanne

I think since it's a bit country it speaks to conservatives and republicans as well as democrats.

Maybe it's because of that line she changes the state to make it relatable to the crowd

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I think the message in a political context is more of a motivational and inclusive message. Like “it’s you and I together, we are not alone, together we can do this, etc.“

I thought everybody knew it clearly though, it clearly can have the message of "it's you and me, we're in this together", ie this community, this country, the need to vote, the consequences are for both you and I, for us all etc.

The sentiment of bringing people together. The "you" isn't synonymous with anyone in particular, therefore when she sings "you and I" its a feeling of including everyone and saying "I am with you, and you are with me. We'll get through this together"

Plus, its a great song.

Maybe so everyone listening feels united, as the song belts the you and i part so much and as a non- fan you maybe don't really hear what she's saying besides that. She's singing in Bidens name so I think spreading that message is a really good thing

Bc she loves to remind us to pay attention in grammar class.

You and me could write a bad romance :bradley:

Seriously tho, I'm glad she sings it bc it's my favourite ballad from her.

also the way the song starts is always so fitting in these settings. “been a long time since I came around, been a long time, but I’m back in town, but this time I’m not leaving without you.” pretty much saying “I know I wasn’t here, but I’m here now and this is not about you, it’s about us, together. I’m here for YOU.”

Shallow and You and I are both songs about people who are indifferent but still in love for each other, and about the wish of both being together, feeling heard and validated and they both are showing awareness of the situation that’s happening in the moment, but they look back in a nostalgic way, and they give a vibe of hope for the future. Universal themes that work for a message of togetherness, hope, and love and care for one another.

She has political songs, like Angel Down and Come To Mama, and Born This Way, yes, but they are having an agenda behind them that could turn people off. When at such events her message is always about togetherness and ultimately the love for the people. Which is why ultimately these two songs are the best fit and represent what she wants to send out the best.

It has a country feel and relatability, which is perfect Americana.
