I'm not American but I am worried about these elections due to the fact that the far-right has been gaining momentum in the west ever since Trump got elected. Thank you guys for everything. We have to have this conversation. Last night was a catastrophe, in every way imaginable but one (in that Biden may actually eek this out at the end). The party leadership actively intervened to stop a wildly popular candidate with organic, legitimate grassroots support on behalf of the guy that had next to no genuine enthusiasm for his campaign, and cable news convinced their age 60+ liberal audience that they had to vote for him to stop Trump while attacking the then-primary frontrunner relentlessly. And now here we are. Trump, one of the most incompetent, disastrous presidents of all time, who killed hundreds of thousands of Americans with a pandemic the rest of the world has under control, somehow improving on his numbers with non-white voters and nearly winning re-election anyway. There’s no excuse for this. The exit polling across the country last night shows (even in Fox News’ polling numbers) that the vast majority of Americans want “government run” M4A style healthcare, want a minimum wage increase, want more spending to address climate change. They wanted Bernie’s platform. And instead, the party and the press propped up the guy with so many skeletons in his closet that it’s genuinely stunning he’s still in politics at all and who literally told Latino and Hispanic immigrant activists that they should vote for Trump when they criticized him for his record of deportations under Obama. And then he goes on to underperform with the demographics that Sanders did well with. What happened this election is blatantly obvious. The Democratic Party has to be completely dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up with real, legitimate leftwing and working class policies or we’re getting another Trump in 2024.
