Spotify will give algorithmic boost in exchange for lower royalties

In the long run, this might pay off I assume, especially if you are a new artist.

Too many people here with moral superiority complex.

is this not slightly problematic? Like the reality is most people will take this opportunity (duh) which means Spotify will be paying artists less but therefore also will have motivation to not promote artists if they aren't apart of the program. so ppl will join the program so they actually can try and grow but if everyone's doing it, its not going to work as well so basically Spotify's profits are going to go way up but artists probably aren't going to see that much change but will see less money (idk if that makes sense but the general idea is there, hopefully you get what I mean)

Independent artists will now make less if they want more exposure? :fthis: Spotify should be trying to give new artists more opportunity to make more money per stream...it's not even 1 cent

Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify!

So there's 2 reasons why this is actually a trap. Once all mainstream artists switch to the lower rate, the "boost" that they get will be synonymous to the current algorithm. Once almost everyone is on this boost, it just becomes the same as before. This is just a scam to pay artists even less.

A scam. Artists should not stand for this.

I really miss the cassetes, CDs and vinyl times. This is a way to music lost its magic :triggered:

Also this is a reason that many musicians are trying other fields, it feels like putting effort on being a musician is not worthy anymore. From now on, all aspiring ones will have to be very talented and good enough to get at the stage as it looks like live concerts are really more profitable.
