The fearmongering :messga:

Court experts and conservative judges don’t expect the ACA and abortion to disappear overnight. Its fine until Inauguration. Y’all pushed the mediocre, anti court packing-Joe Biden on us, so if you really care about rights like y’all wont shut up about, phone bank and lobby his stubborn ass + his admin to balance the court.

does change the fact that anyone who didn't vote for Hillary or Joe are complicit in this

and it's not fear mongering.

Thanks to everyone who voted their "conscience" in 2016.

I do not agree that you can just arbitrarily blame people like this. And to the extent that you are correct in doing so, you have to be equal with your allocation of the blame. If you are going to blame voters for not getting Clinton elected in 2016 you must also place blame on Clinton for not giving them a reason to vote for her and you must also blame RBG for not retiring sooner as we would not be in this predicament if she had only done so (regardless of Clinton losing).

So, no, you don't get to blame it solely on people who didn't vote for Clinton because there's more than enough blame to go around and you don't get to cherrypick the blame to fit what makes you feel morally superior to others. Because that's what you're doing when you do this.

President Biden

:reductive: Still happy your moronic asses voted for Jill Stein in 2016? Still satisfied you tore Hillary to shreds AFTER the primary, to “prove a point”? This is the product of your poor political judgement and egotism. And you will reap the results of such self-serving behavior.

Hopefully you don’t eff this election up too over bullshit “concerns Biden’s too old”. :interestinga:

President Biden

:poot:i have to say this though:

The chance they revisit Obergefell vs Hodges is minimal to none. The last ruling is too “recent” for many justices to feel it needing to be returned too. Likewise, all 3 Trump justices are more libertarian leaning, meaning they likely would rule in favor of social freedom for gays. I believe Kavanaugh already has in a case at the start of this year. over 75% of Americans support LGBT marriage rights and Trump has claimed to as well, which makes it less likely the SCOTUS would attempt to revisit it.

Similarly, you have to stop acting like this brings an overnight change. The court is NOT a Congress. Cases on these topics won’t magically reach there. They will need to go through the process of appeals that reaches the Supreme Court. So at the earliest any landmark case could be reached would be maybe next summer, probably not even.

Also want to point out the most the SCOTUS would do is overturn these decisions, reverting them to the states. That means your local elections (Governor, state legislature) will be essential. If that isn’t an election motivator, to push aggressively for your state to uphold your beliefs, idk what is. I am from the East Coast and the Democratic Governors already have cemented abortion into state constitutions in response. So in no way will our NE states be threatened by any court ruling.

To win elections in the United States you need to move to the center. This is a natural consequence that the US doesn’t have ranked choice nor proportional representation. If Clinton moved father left on, say, the minimum wage, gun control, or police reform, she would had lost more votes from conservative suburban housewives than she would had gained from far-left Green party voters in key swing states.

I support the US having national ranked choice voting for the presidential election and proportional representation for congressional elections, but, going back to the Supreme Court, the Supremes we have today would inevitably strike down any legislation along those lines. So we need to play the “we only get some of what we want, but at least we’ll win” game when choosing who to vote for president.

From your lips to God’s ear. [1] Also, hopefully, Barrett is reasonable about severing the now-moot individual mandate from the rest of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — conservatives tend to support severability. In any reasonable country, eliminating protections for people with pre-existing conditions would not even be on the table.

[1] To be pedantic, Gorsuch was the key swing vote in Bostock v. Clayton County

Seems like a lot of deflection to absolve yourself of any responsibility.

Elections have consequences. What are you doing to stop Orange Hitler’s rampage?

People aren’t worried about overnight changes, they are worried about the next 50 ****ing years that these toddlers will be in their LIFETIME appointments.

Me and my family have been trying for years (generations, really) and voting Dem! We are up against too many stupid, and cruel, racist people, unfortunately (and the Dems in charge SUCK, as we have seen with them sabotaging the Bernie campaign). We need an overhaul, desperately.

Bunch of them are hypocrites who said they won't vote but voted anyway, only Susan Collins didn't.

I'm honestly SO shocked that Susan Collins voted no.

It's not deflection. My opinion is that the blame is all three of the items I mentioned in my previous post. I am pointing out that you are incorrect to place the blame solely on the voter. Because it's not. You can't unilaterally place the blame on the voter in this specific instance. You are wrong to do that.

Elections do have consequences but stop acting like you have some sort of moral high ground here. You don't.

You have no proof that Clinton moving to the left on the above issues would have resulted in a loss. You have no proof because she didn't do it. If you are saying that they need to move to the center in order to win, you can hardly be surprised when they stay at the center instead of pivoting to the left (which they don't do). So, unless I am mistaken you are basically saying that politicians should lie to progressives to get their votes so they can then govern as a moderate. That progressives can only hope to have policy positions that moderates are happy with and that we should all just be republicans. That is what you're saying. You may not realize it but that's exactly what you're saying.

The continued hate to the far left isn't really justified, imho.  I know several lefty folx who have voted Biden to get 45 out.  We aren't always as daft as the central dems make us out to be.

I learned my lesson.  I voted 3rd party in 2016 -- because I trusted the polls (as did most people back then).  And my state was/is a solid red state so 45 would have gotten the electoral votes regardless. (Another issue the US needs to grapple with -- popular vote, electoral college, ranked voting, etc.).

As I said, I learned my lesson; have stopped trusting polls; and have already early voted for Biden (as Bernie has told us Bernie people to do -- wish I had listened to Bernie in 2016).

Just wanted to share this as someone who is introspective of the situation and tries to contextualize the moment (historical or present) -- as most of us are fumbling with what to do.  It's okay to live in contradiction and wrestle with that.  But it isn't encouraging to even dialogue when the centralists give leftists hell.
