Only a million deaths in 9 months doesnt sound like alot for “population control”. Deaths were very low compared to previous years in many countries because everyone was inside. Although old people is another discussion......

The only thing I take from this news is that it is GOOD that this company actually cared enough about the well-being of the population to pause their studies.

A money-driven company would probably lie about it and keep going even if there are bad side effects, just so they can be the first ones to cash in on the vaccine. Even if these companies got persecuted some months after, they would have enough money to bail out of it, and it would leave catastrophic effects on society, such as the reinforcement of the anti-vax movement and the distrust in modern science and medicine, eventually leading us to the new dark ages.

All I can say is, as a biotech engineer myself, these things take their time, and it's good that this company had the morals to not put money before the consumer. It's a rare thing unfortunately. I wouldn't trust a vaccine coming in the next few months to be honest, specially if it comes from China or Russia, which have governments well known for lying about basically everything.

Some scientists are theorizing that this is just a new chapter in human history. The age of the pandemic. With 7.5 billion people on the planet and global travel being a matter of hours or days at most we're basically all possibly days away from potentially catching something.

Nah, a lot of countries are starting to see their birthrates drop and some may even face a crisis of not having enough people. The human population is supposed to cap around 11 billion or so I think.

@thatfoxyfeeling correct. Ageing population and falling birth rates is an increasing problem around the world and many countries are already in decline and birth rates below the replacement rate of 2 children per woman

 

From an environmental perspective it might make sense to want the population to drop but from an economic sense it doesn't make sense that countries would want decline in an economic model based on growth

 

And even environmentaly speaking of governments cared so much about that, the Countries that consume the most and contribute the most to environmental problems are the ones with the slowest population growth already anyway and many in decline in fact (especially in Europe and Japan). 

 

Right now Africa is seeing the biggest growth followed by Asia and they aren't really the big problem. And even Asia in the not too distant future will stagnate with Africa being the only major growing continent. Although it will be enough for earth's population as a whole to stilll grow for decades before peaking but we're looking at an increasingly slower rate of growth as we reach the peak

I'm not a scientist, but this is quite possible I would think. The world is always changing, 'normal' is a movable feast. Going to concerts/football/theatre, for example, could become things that people USED to do.
