Smother Em Eh 7,131
What is Madonna’s darkest record? By darkest I mean aesthetically, thematically and lyrically. Or perhaps she has a album that is darkest aesthetically/ thematically and an album that is darkest lyrically? Like Gaga has a full on dark album which is TFM and an album like BTW which is aesthetically dark but lyrically light. So what about Madonna? What is hers? Answer the poll and discuss! (I wish the poll wasn’t limited to only 10 answers ugh) Get Applause & G.U.Y to 1B views!

GreenDiamond 6,286
American life, she tackled themes that she did not before in such raw and in your face way, album lets you feel a little bit unmofrtable at the end And that legendary visual only helped, this is one of the best pop music videos of all time top 10 easly
highlikegaga 9,097
not an era, but i like this grim doomsday aesthetic she pulled on one of her best songs since 2005
Lucas 27,048
American Life definitely. With songs about the american dream's illusions, the dark sides of celebrity, realizing she cared about things that didn't matter (materialism), losing herself, the pain she felt because of her parents etc... MoonIight 1,372
Erotica for me. From the dark lyrical content (Bad Girl, Erotica, Waiting, Words, Thief of Hearts), to the hypnotizing and haunting new jack swing/hip hop instrumentals and overall aesthetics. Sister 9,907
I don't find any of her albums to be dark. She should do a dark album next. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
vanna shintuyu 10,768
I voted for Ray of Light, but I'd consider everything after Confessions to be in a dark era.
HeavyMetalLover10 44
ray of light is her dark to light album. HC up to Madame x is her Depressive era.
March34th 1,973
ray of light is both a very positive but also dark record when it comes to it's concept, sorta like chromatica actually (upbeat music, sad or scary lyrics) she talked a lot about being a mother, and her memories from her mother. but american life and madame x both are political records and talk about intense stuff like war and gun control,

I was actually thinking about this too. She doesn’t truly have a real actual dark album. She should definitely do one next! Get Applause & G.U.Y to 1B views!
