GoneGUY 858
I'm pretty sure it's the same film, they just got Party as a director now, no? I could be wrong but I was pretty sure it was another ASIB situation where directors changed so the entire direction changed?

Cleopatra was not a white woman, this film would be very bad for Gaga's image. As several users have pointed out, Cleopatra was white. Natives weren't in control of Egypt in that time period and I think casting a black actress would actually serve to do a disservice to understanding exactly how far back white people tried their hardest to subjugate black people and rob them of what was theirs. Born This Way 1,789
I don't think Denis Villeneuve is making a Cleopatra movie anytime soon, he's trying to turn Dune into a successful movie series. I think Dune is gonna do poorly too. I'll see it but it doesn't look that appealing. Run run with her top down baby she flies

Just in general too how Egyptians have been under control by other empires for like half of its history The Persian Empire, the Greek Empire, the Roman Empire, the Islamic Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the British Empire. elijahfan 26,278
Wait, where is this whole science fiction Cleopatra idea coming from? Is this just @Dulo Peep fantasizing? Because I'm fairly sure Denis Villeneuve's project is meant to be pretty straightforward. Also, you gotta love Hollywood for that kind of stuff... they literally had decades to finally make that Cleopatra movie, and now we're getting 2 at the same time And each studio will blame the other in case of underperformance. Wish is pretty common and straightforward? i mean, Cleopatras life already includes a lot of politics, thriller? well, of course, there is assasinations, science fiction? why not, that is what the director is well known for. I am not "fantasizing" stop being condescending

I am not "fantasizing" stop being condescending I have never seen any report of Denis Villeneuve's Cleopatra being science fiction, I was literally just asking a question. The guy loving the genre doesn't mean that's the only thing he can do: being under the impression he's only directing big budget science fiction movies feels like his career started in 2016... Maybe people should take a look at the 7 movies he did before that

gagaforgaga2010 120
As someone who has studied the Ptolemies and their dynasty, it is widely accepted the Cleopatra would have been what we would call "Mediterranean". She was the fruit of pure intermarriage of Macedonian-Greek conquerors who ruled Alexandria. Many use her sister, Arsinoe, as proof that there was sub-Saharan African lineage, but this is not so. It is very plausible that Arsinoe had a completely different mother than her brothers and sisters as Ptolemies took many consorts and wives. For two children to be considered full siblings, the only thing that needed to be shared was the father. If that father happened to be Pharaoh, then you were in line for the throne no matter who your mother was- this practice made for gruesome and terrible practices throughout the entire history of the Royal family. Cleopatra was also not so beautiful. She is reported to have a long hooked nose and light/olive complexion with dark hair. What made her fascinating to most was her mind and her wealth. She is still considered to be one of the richest people in history before adjusting for inflation. After several children, she grew soft (some say fat), and only became the thin waif we are used to seeing after locking herself in her Mausoleum. But to sum it up: Cleo wasn't Lily white, but she was definitely European. She was not black.
