Several movie releases pushed back!

The Wonder Woman movie should be released on HBO Max at this point, that one was supposed to be on theaters last November and if they keep pushing it back it will end up like the new mutants.

As for black widow I think Marvel can delay it as long as they want cause they would still make numbers even if it's released 2 years late.

because not every movie can guarantee the success of Tenet. Warner and Nolan were very insistent in promoting it like a regular movie as if the pandemic were not happening, and it worked out for them.

But we can't guarantee the results will be replicated for other movies you mentioned, especially when there are huge risks of investing marketing costs into it.

I agree, maybe some movies wouldn’t do that well. But major productions like No Time To Die, Dune or BW will very likely do those numbers. For Venom or WW yeah maybe they have to wait but some movies, I just don’t get it.Ā

REALITY

I’m honestly so annoyed and frustrated that all these movies are getting pushed back instead of releasing them on streaming. Like, movie studios are going to lose money anyway! There’s no way they’re going to make a billion dollars, even for movies like Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Widow. Just release them on PVOD. For all we know, we’ll lose 2021 as well. These studios can’t afford to wait any longer.

This is the only thing giving me hope tbh. They can’t afford only producing movies but not releasing them

It only is a box office ā€œflopā€ because of the movies high production costs.

this is pretty much why

they’re afraid their movies won’t be able to breakeven so they’d rather not risk it and lose alot of money, they don’t care about whether we, the audience are dying for a new movie, if there’s not enough financial incentive for them to release it, they won’t.

side note: apparently Tenet needs at least $500M USD to even breakeven, after accounting for all the ad campaigns & marketingĀ

I went to see Tenet in theatres and there was only 4 other people in the theatre and the entire cinema seemed empty, only one employee was working the cash registers. This was opening week, too.

But not every movie produced has a 200M$ budget. Okay, lets say the beg movies aside. They could release smaller movies with big Box Office opportunities and small production costs

A Quiet Place 2: 17M$
Escape Room 2: 10M$
Venom 2: 100M$
The Kings Man: 85M$
Ā

Here is a list of all movies pushed back. A lot low budget once with a good Box Office possible even with corona:

I shall happily wait many more months if it means I and everyone else can safely watch Black Widow in the theatresĀ

A cinema visit within corona restrictions is as safe as going to a restaurant,Ā meet friends and families or going to work.

I advise you to watch John Campea as he makes a lot of sense for movie news. He’s an industry expert for these things.

I will point out, however, that you need to understand how movies are marketed. Usually an ad campaign picks up a month before the movie lands. And because of COVID the industry has been a lot more skeptical. We don’t know how much worse things will get by November. Furthermore, movie companies aren’t willing to take the chance to use millionsĀ of dollars to promote only to then delay the movie again. Also, scheduling movies isn’t easy. You can’t just push a movie back a month. Movie slots per quarter of a year are very specific and dictate how well a movie could perform. HenceĀ why movies are pushed back to the next holiday season. Greedy movie companies wouldn’t be pushing back if they knew they could make the money.Ā

I get that there must be reasons. And I along the thread I understood a bit why big BIG movies aren’t released.Ā it just feels frustrating. I lost all hype for some of the movies.

But low budget movies at least? There are some movies who will make it well even with Corona. A quite place 2 (17M$ Budget) for example. Lets add promotional costs. It will still easly outsell these costs, especially with not much other movies being released.

You can’t assume that movie companies are going to give us small movies because they feel bad about not releasing any for most of the year. They’re going to wait until they can get the highest profit possible.

This is capitalism.Ā

Yea it’s extremely annoying how so many already completed films keep being pushed back. The majority of people won’t feel safe in a theater until COVID is gone. They should just bite the bullet and release digitally. But I get all they really care about is profit. We’re basically not going to have many new films until late 2021 at this point.

In which way will they do profit when movie theaters don’t exist anymore? You can’t make theĀ same numbers with streaming (by far). And people buying digitaly/DVD isn’t a thing anymore.Ā Also they can’t sit on that money 4 ever. This is the last pushback, in my opinion, that movie companies and theaters can allow themselvesĀ
