Released July 20th 2020 (what seems to be a previous cover: ) Translated from Dutch: Human evolution can tell us a lot about our current behavior and the problems we are struggling with. Through Darwin's glasses we look at the most important moments in our history. Evolutionary psychologist Mark van Vugt takes us on a journey through human evolution. From the African savannah, where the first humanoids lived for millions of years, to the small tower of Mark Rutte and the Oval Office of Donald Trump. On this journey we discover that we are actually not that different from the human who lived 3.2 million years ago. Through Darwin's glasses we look at the everyday and special aspects of our species; from how we love and raise children to how we plot and choose our political leaders. Events from the recent past, such as the murder of JFK, Mandela's struggle for freedom, Lady Gaga's activism, the financial crisis and the corona crisis, are highlighted from an evolutionary point of view. This book teaches us that we have to dig into our deep past to interpret the present and future, and shows us how we can adapt our behaviour to new kinds of problems such as climate change, internet addiction, work stress and obesity.
