Also she isn't "scary" because she hasn't pulled off her mask yet. You can see the lines on her face where it sits. It was the same in the original movie as well... If you read my post fully and didn't stop after the first sentense you'd know that I have seen the orginal movie. And just because the grand high witch had an accent in the 1990 film, doesn't mean I have to like the accent Anne uses in this version? I love Anne as an actress, I just don't find her to come across as cool and creepy and therefore terrifying as Angelica did in the orginal. I'm interested to see the CGI effects on her face, but so far this version seems too glossy for my taste. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

Andy McQueen 4,484
How can the CGI mice look so bad when literally this was done just one year ago:

Also, it seems this movie is just an emulation, not a reimagined version of of the original one. Well remember they’re both based on a book, so yes this is just another adaptation of said book. jacs vs looser 4,207
The CGI on the cat is ... a choice. And I hate to agree, but Anne was definietly not a good cast for this role, they should've gone with an actress with a resting b*tch face, or maybe Glenn Close as someone else has already pointed out. Both Houston and Hathaway are playing that aspect faithfully to the book.
StrawberryBlond 14,776
This looks even worse than I feared. Over-reliance on CGI and far too Disney-fied. It's a sad day when talking mice from a 1990 film look more lifelike than CGI ones today. What on earth are they thinking not giving Anne Hathaway the full grotesque witch face? That was one of the most iconic parts of the original and also why the Grand High Witch stood out from the other witches. Losing that aspect is what's going to make a lot of former fans decide against it now. It appears that Luke's transformation, with those purple bubbles all over him will be the most frightening moment of all, a truly bizarre transformation scene. And as for the humour - "mouses?" That's what's going to pass for humour? The only way it may redeem itself is keeping to the original book ending which the 1990 film failed to do but considering everything else they've "updated," I really doubt they will. StrawberryBlond 14,776
Also, it looks like there will be nowhere near as many witches as the original - I counted just 50 chairs in that conference room, the original had chairs that went up and down the length of the room! And I knew something bugged me but couldn't work out what it was, now I see: the original book line was changed from: "it doesn't matter who you are and what you are as long as somebody loves you" to "it doesn't matter who you are and what you look like, as long as somebody loves you." Unusual change (maybe invoking the human element which "what you are" doesn't imply) but it doesn't ring as true and I thought Octavia sounded like she was just reading off a script when she said it. I just get the feeling this is going to be very much a line-reading kinda movie that people are in just for a cheque. Again, filmmakers believe putting Oscar winners in a film is going to make it huge. We've seen many times, audiences see through that. 2 minutes ago, Suuus said: Well they do have slits on the sides of their mouth so maybe the reveal will in a different part of the movie I did notice that but if she can't show her true self in front of her fellow witches, where would she show it? There is that very brief moment where she's looking at herself in a handheld mirror and thunder flashes in the background and there seems to be flashes of what appears to be a different face underneath and there's another scene where her teeth appear to be a bit pointed and rotten, but again, see above. Maybe it'll be a "she transforms into ugly when she's mad" so it'll only happen near the finale or something? Predictable update technique, in my opinion. Killa 17,412
I was kinda sad when i saw it was hathaway arghhhh . Her acting or direction doesnt invite me at all. The kid and the mum seem are nice. It feels like they went with mainstream holiday vibe. It could be cute

Agree with everything, unfortunately yes. On a side note, though: I think the marks/lines/scars on the sides of the mouth that all the witches have might implicate they are all wearing human face masks? I guess they didn't want to already spoil that in the trailers? Or does this suggest their mouthes can be opened up way bigger than humans can? I do suspect there might be a similar reveal scene too, they just didn't spoil it? I could be totally wrong though. But it was also in the book, so I guess at least the Grand High Witch might reveal her true form (I hope).
