Stupid Love. Rain on Me was very GP-friendly and an Ariana feature so it's better that she saved it closer to the album's release. Alice is still more of a fan-fave and SL despite fans' complains did its job and was one of the better choices. Had another song get released back then, by now fans would have hated it too.

jacs vs looser

Alice, with a MV directed by Francis Lawrence or David Meyers, NOT shot on iPhone.

I think the song would've debuted top3 and have a much smaller fall the 2nd week.

I've always said that Alice should have been the lead single - period.

The Chromatica era imo should have went:

Alice (Lead Single) - with the right music video, it would have had been a hit 100%. They literally wasted all the fresh positive press from ASIB on SL which imo isn't lead single material at all.

Stupid Love (Promo Single)

Rain On Me (Second Single)

911 (Third Single)

Sour Candy (Fourth Single)

Babylon (Fifth and Final Single)

The whole point of chromatica was to take us on a journey so why didn't they start with Alice (the literal intro to chromatica)? It's kind of confusing and to say that Alice isn't as GP friendly as SL doesn't make sense? Gaga's entire career is built on being anti-GP, she's the literal trendsetter. SL was such a safe option and doesn't rank as high as her previous lead singles. It was a wasted opportunity.

EDIT: This post wasn't intended to criticise or complain about Gaga or this era. I'm very grateful that we even got an era at all considering the world we're currently living in however I just wish this era was curated and more aligned with the cohesiveness of the album itself. That's all.

you can serve it to me ancient city style...

"Stupid Love" was the right lead single. I don't think it's the best song on the album, but it's very GP-friendly, and I think it's important that the lead single wasn't a duet. "Stupid Love" is fun and easy to dance to, and the video is campy and colorful. It's not going to win any awards as far as I can tell, but it heralded a return to DanceGa/PopGa after the ASIB era.

A Fried Egg

Alice, always Alice. Chromatica I was made for Alice. The song would have made a killer return to dance pop. Instead we got Stupid Love, though not a bad song, has no longevity and will not be a Gaga classic. Chromatica I + Alice would still be remembered for years to come. Remember that time Gaga decided to end the pop drought with one of the best pop transitions into one of the gayest pop songs ever?

At the next Super Bowl or some big event, instead of Poker Face always being the opening number, we could get C1 and Alice.. sigh.. too late now. It’s Gaga’s music so it’s not my place to decide.

Stupid Love is one of the catchiest songs on the album and I personally would not change a thing. It's already a Gaga signature song.
