Except that's like the easiest way to collect taxes and not only collect it but to collect it in a progressive rather than a regressive way. The only difference is that the tax law gives the rich so many ways to lower their taxability whereas people under a certain income have no way to do that and pay everything they are owed. To be fair, that money is supposed to go towards things we need like public services, infrastructure, social security, Medicaid, Medicare, EBT, other safety nets, etc etc. Taxes are important and the cost of living in a society.
