Well originally the label of conservative and liberal for judges was how they interpret the constitution. Liberals are more willing to interpret the constitution more abstractly and apply principals to new situations whereas conservatives would take the constitution with varying levels of specificity. In other words, some conservative judges will say that if it isn't explicitly written in the constitution then it is by definition unconstitutional. Which in reality is a really moronic argument considering how government is not designed for partisan politics to amend the constitution to add specificity to the constitution since when it was written they had no idea what technological advancements may happen and how society would evolve over time. 

But modern politics basically has torn those old definitions down and turn it into a partisan definition. Conversative is republican and liberal is democrat.

True, but the law was created by humans and is therefore imperfect and open to interpretation and debate. The way you interpret the law will depend on your own values and beliefs.
