FfFfFfFF 58,062 Posted September 21, 2020 Share Posted September 21, 2020 The UK is poised to bring forward its ban on new fossil fuel vehicles from 2040 to 2030 to help speed up the rollout of electric vehicles across British roads. The decision to end the sales of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030 would put the UK ahead of France, which has a 2040 ban in the pipeline, and in line with Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands. Norway will bring in a ban in 2025. RahrahWitch 6,985 Posted September 21, 2020 Share Posted September 21, 2020 Yay glad to see another country doing this As great as it is that we're moving more and more away from fossil fuels, It needs to happen quicker - Unless there's huge changes we're on set to raise the global temperature by around 4% in 2100 which will be devastating. We've done too much already the only thing we can do now is try mitigate the damage. We have the technology to shift almost completely to electricity It's sad that it hasn't happened already. Dominic 11,922 Posted September 21, 2020 Share Posted September 21, 2020 Its a great idea in theory but realistically the UK just doesn't have the infrastructure to achieve this goal, public charging points are a start but unless they ramp up fast-charging then people arent going to leave their cars for hours on end - way too inconvenient. In-home charging ports just aren't a possibility for the majority of people either. It wasnt realistic for a 2050 goal, nevermind a 2035 and now a 2030. Plus the automotive industry has already taken a large hit due to Brexit I cant see them being able to sustain that level of commitment either. Seems more like an ideal. They should focus on hybrid moreso at the moment until we can support EV or as an alternative invest more in hydrogen. I think it's realistic if they are banning NEW sales and if they really commit to beefing up the infrastructure But I think it's too early a date if it's a ban on using those cars cause it will force a lot of people to scrap perfectly good cars and people aren't exactly swimming in money to just throw away cars that still have use Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
