No doubt TikTok has security issues, but the random puppy videos cheer me up a lot so I will be sad. Don’t downplay those issues bij just referring to them as ‘security issues’, there is a way bigger problem at play.

Please google why that app and it’s privacy policy is really dangerous. Nothing I found made it sound any more dangerous than any other social media app. I don't use it anyway, but that is beside my point in the first place, which was about censorship. Alcohol is dangerous. Cigarettes are dangerous. Lots of things are dangerous but not banned because humans are allowed to make their own decisions. If someone doesn't care that their data is being used, you can't force them. Plus, it's obvious that many of the people rejoicing for the banning of Tik Tok aren't doing so over security fears but because they just don't like the app. chaeri pls

MonsterPaws 2,745
1 hour ago, RAMROD said: The last I read, y'all been repeating that "USA is not the centre of this world" or something along that line in this cult site like a broken records, so which one is the truth? Were those just pressed Europeans or what? When did I--Monster Paws--say that? And also, the USA isn't the center of the world, but it most definitely has influence as a superpower. Just because China also has powerful influence doesn't make it the center of the world either. Neither did Russia during the Cold War. Your logic is flawed and just dumb. By the way, don't be overdramatic. USA will not be Middle East, we have first amandement here that protects free speech, literally no other apps been banned besides Chinese products that are deemed problematic. Again, where did I say the USA will be the Middle East? You're fighting shadows you're making up What I did say is "My fear of banning social media apps (regardless of country of origin), is that it sets a precedent that strongly remind me of authoritarian regimes." Out of all "Western" or even just democratic nations, the USA actually ranks quite poorly in certain indices regarding democracy and liberties. Also, US elected an incompetent, right-wing sympathetic celebrity for PRESIDENT. Back in 2015/2016 a lot of people said Trump's win was unlikely and an embarrassment (which it is). Well here you are, cupcake. Also, Chinese spying is unlike Western world spying. Just keep in mind they are major allies to Russia and North Korea, USA need to protect their security and it is their preogative, especially when a lot of experts predicts that, shall it happened, the next world war will starts as cyber war first before shooting war. Sure...but also Five Eyes and the NSA say hi. Not to mention all the governments the US helped toppled over strongly aided by their spy programs and military. Besides, USA is not the first country that banned Chinese apps, India already did it beforehand. But it certainly wouldn't be the last, cos Chinese apps is that dodgy, mates. Take a look around. Even Japan now considering for the same action, and they are usually cool with all techie stuffs. Chinese apps are definitely dodgy and a security threat. Which is why my first sentence was "I 100% agree" to the OP. But let's not pretend that American-based tech companies don't pose a security, political, or social threat. While Chinese apps are a threat because of their ties to the Chinese government, American tech are a threat because they're unregulated by the US government. And the US being governed by inept old people doesn't help either. Like have you seen the Zuckerberg Congress meeting? Those old white guys barely understand Facebook let alone TikTok.
