not even the seasons with miss gags?

I started Hotel but got bored of it and didn't finish the 1st episode. :billie: I don't know, I feel like they're kinda pretentious and too extra with the acting. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood, should give it another try. I love Kathy Bates and Frances Conroy so must be worth it.

1984 was SO bad... the acting in it was literally horrible.. and it was just ALL over the place. They tried TOO hard to "shock" you. it was dumb

It's so hard because I like them all for different reasons and it changes depending on what season I saw last but here's my ranking now (I haven't seen whole 1984 yet)

1. Cult

2. Hotel

3. Asylum

4. Freak Show

5. Roanoke

6. Coven

7. Murder House

8. Apocalypse (First two or three episodes are one of my favorites but I hate it they made it cross-over:bradley:)

Taste! Cult doesn’t get NEARLY enough credit. It was the most cohesive season!!

Asylum and Cult, Taste. I always say Cult was the most cohesive season.

I was actually surprised at the hate it gets, I thought it was the most cohesive, best written season.

Asylum simply comes out on top because it had all of that, plus supernatural spookiness and Jessica Lange.

Same, I'm actually pleasently surprised at people in this thread ranking it high.

So I watched every season of AHS from the first episode of first season weekly as episodes came out and I only revisited Hotel, Murder House and Coven and perhaps this list would be different if I watched them all again, but I ll list them based on the way I felt about them at the time (so it's been almost full 10 years of watching, and some feelings/thoughts have faded over time). Anyways this is the list:

1. Asylum - This one just had it all, from aliens, Nazis, angels, to a serial murderer. Although I feel that if I watched it now again I wouldn't like it as much. That's why I have not watched it again.

2. Coven - This one is the most fun. It's not scary at all, but it has some really fun moments. I also love the theme of witches and Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates are great here.

3. Hotel - A little bit subjective on this one because of Gaga. However, this is one that I rewatched and Denis O'Hare's Liz Taylor is the BEST character of all AHS characters in all seasons. He just ANNIHILATED that role. Also camera work is fantastic, and the feeling of claustrophobia inside that hotel is well done. In some scenes I rember I felt like I could taste the uncleaned dust off the carpets inside the hotel. I did not care much about the commandments part / detective though.

4. 1984 - It was sooo CAMPY and fun, I loved it. Again not scary, but a very nice homage to slasher horrors from the 80s. As long as you don't expect it to be serious, you can enjoy it. And the cast was pretty good I'd say, considering that all the big names dropped out for this season.

5. Murder House - Placing it here only because it started all. But I remember on rewatch that I did not enjoy it as much as when I watched it the first time. It just didn't age too well. Hotel was much better on rewatch for example.

6. Apocalypse - I think I am ranking this one high because I like Coven so much and the fact that they tied things in with other older seasons also brought the feeling of nostalgia / wishing to see more of those old characters. The ending is attrocious though.

7. Roanoak - Well, the season has an interesting premise. But I found many characters underused. Like Evan Peters or Lady Gaga for example... expected much more from it. So yea... it doesn't really go anywhere with the story and acting is subpar... a lot of people also complain about Sarah Paulson's screaming and crying in this season, although it did not bother me much, but yea... acting was not the best.

8. Freakshow - Jessica Lange said that was her favorite character to play out of the 4 she played. But in all honesty she was mostly the same as in first 3 seasons. The whole season for me just felt as We'll just gather a bunch of freaks to scare you with them... but since I didn't see any of them as freaks really, there was nothing scary or interesting there for me. I liked Jessica's take on David Bowie's Life on Mars... that's about it really.

9. Cult - I am sorry I know that there are people here who really liked this season, but for me it was SOOO BORING. Omg that was the only season I FORCED myself to finish. People were already criticizing AHS in previous seasons how bad it had become, but I stuck with it and loved every season up to it and then Cult came and I though omg, people are right, this show is really beginning to suck. Maybe I just couldnt connect to the whole political monster theme... I don't know, but yea, boring.

That would be it, I know people will disagree with me, but as someone who really loves AHS and has been a fan from the first episode, these are my two cents on all the seasons.

xoxo

Admittedly, I can't judge because I can't finish a season anymore to save my life lmao.

But, I watched AHS s1 as it was airing on TV and....it was phenomenal. I was so excited every week to watch it. I felt like it was pushing the boundaries of cable TV (similar to nip/tuck, another Murphy show) and I absolutely loved it. I can't believe how quickly I felt that to....not even being interested in a new season.  I will say that I still LOVE Murder House and Coven and they were one of the few seasons I could finish/enjoy.
