It has one of the best pre-choruses on Chromatica (an album filled with great pre-choruses), is so deeply emotional and vulnerable, and toys with the Stefani VS Gaga idea that so many fans have been wanting her to explore more. So she gave it to y'all. And I like to think that the lack of a drop after the first chorus was done to intentionally give "blueballs" to the listener. Kinda like, everyone expects this big drop, and nothing happens. Just like how you feel when you're down sometimes...everyone around you hypes you up to enjoy the party but you cannot lie to yourself and eventually gotta admit, you're not having fun tonight.
