I think she complimented her for doing that amazing whistle with mask on.

 

I think it's also obvious that the mask had a mic on, the sound waves are translated into the mask. Aside from multiples takes and Gaga being vocally trained for this, let's not forget Gaga literally swung around the air while singing in the superbowl, doing backflips mid-air while still singing. Nah, the performances were edited so she did it live but they edited her voice so it sounds louder and linear all the time

The mere fact of wearing the mask confuses matters. You can't see her mouth, so it's impossible to marry up what you're seeing with what you're hearing. The handheld mic has to be a prop, otherwise you'd be listening to someone singing through a mask, and it just doesn't sound like that. She's not focussed on that mike either, treats it very casually at times.

I'm sure there are backing tracks and multi-takes in play, but there's also a lot of live singing. You can hear some imperfections, and I kinda like that, the honesty of it.

And... I think she wore the mask to hide the cuts easier if the mouth dont match.

I think those ad lib parts were genuine and only the choreo ones were pieced together using multiple takes.
