As I have said before, this is a very cohesive album, but sometimes it is even too cohesive so I can't even see the difference between two songs. My favorites tracks are: Mariners Apartment Complex, Venice Beach, Doin' Time, Cinnamon Girl, The Next Best American Record, and hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have — but I have it. NFR! means a lot to me bc 2019 was such a crap year for me. And it was even worse when the seriously rumored March 2019 release date didn't happen. When it arrived in August, I had a huge emotional breakdown. It was intense, but besides 2020 being such a sh*tstorm of a year, I'm actually doing 1000% better. The cover has a painting-like texture as Norman Rockwell was a very famous painter. He used to portray many images of the American Dream and I think Lana’s cover kind of portrays the twisted future as the result of all the American Dream scenes from past decades. The ocean scenario was also teased by the end of the last song from Lust For Life, Get Free. She’s also portraying LA in flames which links to one of her poems The Land of 1000 Fires and the wild fires and overall chaos on the United States. The whole things is pretty much a statement of escapism and how American culture became way too toxic for her. Basically this whole concept is clearly represented on the lyrics from The Greatest!
