Ugh. At least it’s her highest rated. The album imo truly is good. It’s fun! Why is it okay for other artist to make fun music yet Katy is criticized harshly for it? . Why can’t pop music just be pop music?
Anyway, I’m gonna continue enjoying the album.

I think is because it's Katy Perry, the girl that managed to get five #1 singles from the same album and that's always going to put high expectations on her...like it or not.

What if tomorrow I see you again? Should I say that I used to love you?

Man I feel bad for her these days, yknow? She tries so hard to write meaningful songs and creative, deep lyrics, melodies that hook you, and people sh.it all over her constantly. There is literally nothing wrong with her music. I actually really like the lyrics to Daisies and don't know why so many people trash the song. Listen to her read the words:

Is this not meaningful?

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

That doesn't seem like what these critiques are criticizing though. They're attacking her quality and the fact that her lyrics are too "sweet" (whatever the hell that means). I just don't get this obsession where pop music has be super serious all the time. She does have songs on the album with more mature themes too so I'm not really understanding the issue.

Tis is the first Katy album i've liked since Teenage Dream so I don't even consider myself a hardcore fan like that which is why i'm even more confused.

she's been doing the same type of music for around 10 years. people are tired of it. i mean its okay if she wants to do that because thats the type of music she likes but we can already expect this album wont do well

And when she changes to a more serious tone, they'll complain that she's lost her spark. :smh:

honestly music wise witness is a great album and a right step for her. i guess people are also tired of funny cartoon-ish persona. chained to the rythm did great on the charts. bon appetit was the only song i dont get why it flopped since it has a great video (maybe its because she cut her hair? idk but pretty much the same as i dont understand why G.U.Y flopped). then swish swish, a great song but flopped maybe becuse of taylor feud and the video was a total mess

Pop Music

I'm sure i'm gonna like the album

I am a fan of more simplistic pop music as well as more complex pop

Pop Music can be whatever it wants to be and I don't get why Katy is judged

I am still excited for Smile!

Pop Music and Lady Gaga forever!

Pitchfork - 5.7/10

Katy Perry’s bubbly, cliché-ridden pop feels especially unsuited for life in a pandemic. But despite all her garbled platitudes, she remains a master at executing chart-topping formulas.

NME - 2/5.

The drags in this review:toofunny:

It isn’t even that the songs are bad – it’s worse than that: they’re largely forgettable. Gone are the pithy couplets and catchier-than-a-rash hooks, replaced with lacklustre imitations. The poorly-charting ‘Harleys in Hawaii’ (it scraped the UK Top 40, though not the Billboard Hot 100), with its sultry tropical instrumentals, seeps from your memory as it finishes, while electro-bop ‘Teary Eyes’ is pleasant enough but lacks the Perry panache you crave.
