It sure did, she can literally sing anything and it will be good but it doesn't negate the fact that she is too good for pop music. IMO her talent is being wasted in pop music, she is capable of much greater things.

But why do you assume that pop music is "less than"? Pop music is just another genre, just like jazz, rock, country, etc. are. She can do all genres very well, that's what makes her great.

Well ASIB has her best vocals and Joanne her worst. So maybe AC is her strong suit and whatever genre Joanne is supposed to be is her worst.

I don't know anything about singing, but the performances I liked her voice best were 4 Non Blondes and Metallica so I guess rock. 

Edit: I am listening now to What's Up and to be fair it is a little screamier than I remembered...

Pop music tends to fall on the more basic side of music. This is not to say that she doesn't make good music though, don't get that twisted.

She's a great musician, this isn't a surprise by any means. This comes pretty easy to her, she single-handedly changed pop music as soon as she debuted. She is literally a rockstar doing pop music though.

Somebody needs to write the book on this. What is pop, what is rock, what is jazz, funk, blues, country etc ? Are they not all just subsets of pop, and is it not the case that the only thing that actually counts in the end is the subjective issue of how much you like a particiular piece of music (not genre) ?

It's common on Gaga's youtube videos to see comments to the effect that she is great but why is she wasting her time on that dance music. You rarely see the opposite, as in why is she wasting her time on that rock/jazz rubbish when she could be doing a good dance number. Both comments are equally invalid in my book.

I like just about everything Gaga has done. Sometimes I want to hear an acoustic Edge Of Glory, and sometimes I want to hear the album version which is completely different but gorgeous in other ways. Sometimes I want to hear Lush Life, and sometimes I want to hear Applause, etc etc.
