Ok this is gonna be a long one, no one's gonna read it, but i'm gonna start this by saying THIS IS NOT A TAYLOR SWIFT HATE POST. I really admire her as an artist, I think she is literally the most brilliant songwriter of this generation. No, she's not the most talented vocalist but Bob Dylan wasn't and that's ok. She has a very clear view of who she is, writes from the heart and even experimented a bit with her vocals on this last album. But I can't deny that she has done some very shady things in the past. And those things always kept me from being a full on stan of hers. Now, I will say that yes, misogyny is a very big part of stan culture, especially considering that it's mostly made by gay men and gay men can be extremely misogynistic.

In regards to her men: People only talk about her exes because she chose to shine a light on that. She was the one doing interviews shading and exposing them, she was the one saying their names on songs, she always made it very publicly clear that if they ever broke her heart she was gonna expose them to the world. So I don't think that comes from misogyny, she built that relationship with her fans and with the media.

About Katy: That whole thing was stupid as ****. She constructed a story out of nothing really, that whole dancer thing was very high-school of her. So she put another female singer on blast and decided to capitalize on it. I really love 1989 but Bad Blood is a terrible song and that whole thing was the dumbest thing I've ever seen on pop music. The way she was selling that video as "female empowerment" when the whole point of it was to "expose" another female was nasty as ****. And people bought it.

Katy was probably pressured into writing Swish Swish by everyone (the media, her friends, the label) but it was very clear she never wanted to retaliate. She always said that song took the longest to make because she wasn't feeling it and when it was time to really promote it she avoided talking about Taylor. I'm glad she decided to be the bigger person and write that letter to her. And then Taylor wrote You Need to Calm Down saying it was the media who was turning them against each other when we all know she was the one who started that whole thing out of nothing... :saladga:

About her money: I'm sorry but to me Taylor is the greatest example of extreme capitalism on pop music and that irks me so much. The way she was sending cease and desist letters to fans that were selling t-shirts with her quotes, fabric dolls, etc was disgusting. The way she made them buy merch so they could have better seats on her concerts... :saladga: The way her father bought her way into the label and then allegedly bought 100.000 copies of her album so she could be noticed on the charts :saladga:

About Kanye: Now this is where I think misogyny comes into place. We all were quick to believe Kanye because yes, he is a man. And he is supposed to be this brilliant artist while Taylor is just a little girl. That whole thing was very unfair and she did not deserve it at all. Her name is forever attached to his and that is terrible.

With all of that said, Taylor is growing up to be better than ever. All of that she went through made her really think through her actions and evaluate her place in this world. The pressure she suffered from her fans and the media to be more vocal in terms of politics made her come through and do a historic act in her state and country. Her music is better than ever, she looks healthier than ever... I think this is gonna be a whole new era for her and I'm excited to see it.

TLDR: Taylor has done some pretty shady things in the past but she is growing up to be an amazing artist and human being.

It's definitely more layered, nuanced, and artful. :vegas:

4. There is a difference between hating someone and disliking their music

Yeah and they're both valid. You are allowed to hate Taylor Swift because of no reason at all or because you find her annoying, petty and childish, you can find her annoying you can hate her based on the way she carries herself or talks etc doesn't mean you are sexist. People need to calm down

It’s not like she was doing this herself. She may not have even known about it

reality’s tight if the music is right

Yeah and you are allowed to not like that. The difference with Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran for example is that Ed Sheeran doesn't go to award shows, talking about how "thank you to my EX for this record without you it wouldn't happen", he doesn't throw shade to exes that are celebrities and in the same room. Nothing wrong with that, but it's okay to not like that behavior and to not like Taylor Swift. I personally like Taylor and I have no problem with her but it's okay to not like it, doesn't mean you are sexist. There has been many women who built a career singign songs about exes and failed rships, but Taylor has always been shady on purpose or sassy in public about it and it could turned people off that's natural

I’m just not a fan because I’ve always considered her the “ khaki pants of music”. She’s just not interesting or different to me at all, and her music is easy to digest which is one of the reasons she sells so well. This has nothing to do with sexism, she just has so appeal to me. However I’m still able to see why people like her and I understand she’s a talented song writer. She’s just not for me

Lord Temptation

She writes taylor-made (:creepflop:) lyrics for kids. So when the kids cringed at her “Spelling is fun!” line, she erased her own art. Just like that :fail:

I’m not one of those kids. I’m someone who doesn’t pay attention to those kids :coffee:

And folklore’s lyrics are incredible. I’m convinced that who can’t recognize how great that album is is just illiterate or has a weird personal vendetta against her

It took me a couple listens to GET folklore but it's definitely a solid piece of work; i think the issue is we are on a lady gaga pop forum so a lot of users just want dance pop music so anything that isn't that is automatically boring or a flop. This obvi isn't all users but definitely the same people who only like gaga when she does pop.

OT: I think it's normal for people to not care for or dislike Taylor Swift but when that turns into hate then it's weird. I think hating any artist is weird though, like you don't know them but you are putting that much energy into disliking someone who doesn't even know or care that you exist :bear: like just don't listen to them lol

I don't hate taylor swift. I just think she's overrated and not that great of a singer. Songwriter yes, but performer no. The same with beyonce she's over hyped and overrated and not that great of a singer. I mean she cracked in the Song Sandcastle...IJS...
