There is a difference between Republicans like John McCain and Mitt Romney and Republicans who support Trump through and through. Honestly, Dems need all the support they can to win this election. Polls show 2/3rds of the base ain’t even excited for him. You could make the case that this is to bring in more right wing voters, but they’re under Trump’s spell with like high 80s in approval rating.
