Better Day 5,766
" SOME 53% of Scots now support independence, according to a new poll from YouGov. The survey, carried out for The Times, put Yes in the lead with don’t knows removed after two Panelbase polls showing Scottish independence support at 54% earlier this summer. It was an increase of two percentage points for Yes since YouGov last asked the question in April. Pro-independence politicians have welcomed the new survey. Pete Wishart, the SNP’s longest serving MP, tweeted: “Not just sustained majority support but the settled will of the people of Scotland.” The party’s depute leader Keith Brown wrote: “SNP on 57%, projected to win 74 seats. FM on =50 approval, PM on -50. 53% support for indy (up 2%). Need to keep out eyes on the prize and take nothing for granted.” The poll also found that 57% of voters in Scotland plan to back the SNP at next year’s Scottish independence, an increase of three percentage points from YouGov’s previous Holyrood voting intentions carried out in April. Polling expert John Curtice said the 57% SNP support would translate into the party winning 74 seats next year, an increase of 11 MSPs." https://www.thenational.scot/news/18644920.scottish-independence-yes-support-53-yougov-poll/ Bring independence on. Luc 4,776
It goes from 47% back to 50% to 53% throughout the year. For something like independence, as much as I'd love to see Scotland join the EU, you should get 60%+ of people to agree or have a long-lasting 50%+ majority. An occasional 53% yes majority when the UK happens to be in a shitty situstion at that moment isn't enough for a decision with such long-lasting effects (same logic for Brexit imo). FfFfFfFF 58,382
Scottish people live in Scotland from Ancient times (as descendantsof the Celts) and currently form the majority there. They are numerous and legitimate enough to to run their own country and take decisions by themselves, especially in topics like EU.

I think people are seeing through the lies and deciet of the UK. This is the fourth poll in so many months that has polls suggesting a Yes victory. I voted Yes at the 2014 referendum. We were lied too, promised we would stay in the EU. We are getting dragged out of the EU despite 62% in Scotland voting to remain. Independence has been a long time coming. Together You And I! OMonster 15,025
Out of the EU, Britain will have its own customs union and trade border. That means an independent Scotland in the EU = Scotland in a different customs union to the UK, even though the VAST majority of Scottish exports are to the UK (not Europe). This makes Scottish independence economic suicide. I cannot understand why a country would want to make trade more difficult for itself? And yes, that's my view on Brexit, too - it was, economically, an unwise decision. But those in favour of an Independent Scotland are usually those in favour of remaining in the EU, which makes no sense. You want to remain in the EU for trade benefits? But leave the UK, your biggest trade partner? I don't get it Scottish Independence is wrapped up in political romanticism and nationalism - not logic. subtext / fantasy

We keep getting governments that we didn’t vote for. Scotland keeps getting abused by the UK gov. We just want to run our country the way we want. Not the way Boris Johnson wants to run our country. We are getting dragged out of the EU even though 62% of us voted to remain. The UK has done NOTHING to find a compromise. We would still be able to trade with the UK. However the way things are by January we won’t be able to trade with the EU and the UK will be going down the tubes. The UK will implode in 5 months Together You And I! The UK will implode in 5 months But here's the thing - the reason you think the UK will implode in five months (because of trade restrictions) are the EXACT same restrictions Scotland will be faced with if it is independent from the UK. The exact same: Scotland in a different customs union to the UK. And I understand your view about Scotland not being governed by the party it votes for. But... 1) There HAS been compromise. Scottish devolution, as you will know, gives the country full autonomy over things like public services, education, ect. 2) I'm not sure that being unhappy with an election result should be the basis of whether a country should be independent or not - especially when said country does have its own government already. I mean... London, for example, almost always votes Labour. Does that mean London should be independent because it 'doesn't want to be' governed by the Conservatives? And what about in the US? Should a state become independent if their voting trends don't tally up with the rest of the country? That's kind of what democracy is, after all... majority rule. And if you have to decrease the voting sample in aid of democracy... is it really democracy, at all? I don't know. I just don't think it's logical to say that Scotland must be independent because it votes differently. There are many other factors - such as protecting an economic union - that should trump that. I do think, though, more needs to be done to represent Scotland's voice - and indeed, the voice of other regions that don't match up to the majority. A voting reform would be welcomed. Btw, I'm not attacking you here. I'm just interested in opposing views in this debate. subtext / fantasy

Btw, I'm not attacking you here. I'm just interested in opposing views in this debate. The thing is, we never voted for this implosion that is about to happen. We voted to stay in the EU as Scotland, the country. 1. Yes we have devolution but we don’t have a say in many aspects - foreign policy, work and pensions. 2. London is a city. We are a country. A whole country that has no influence in election. We are represented in 59 MP, England is represented by 533. This is not justified and no voting reform would be substantial. I voted for Indepedence in 2014 for various reasons. However we were promised we would stay in the EU if we voted ‘No’. Scotland voted No, but wait, we are leaving the EU despite Scotland voting to remain. Unlike the EU vote. The SNP has independence all planned out just in case and we are strong enough to become independent. Together You And I!
