Mayor of Beirut Doesn't Feel Guilty But Admits the Explosion Was Avoidable

At least 135 people were killed and 5000 injured in the Beirut explosion on Tuesday. Homes and businesses in the Lebanese capital have been torn apart and it is estimated that 300,000 people are homeless and rescuers are continuing to look for people. A two week state national emergency has been declared and Beirut port officials have been placed under house arrest pending an investigation into the blast. The Mayor of Beirut Jamal Itani says that they will rebuild Beirut and provide temporary homes for everyone who has lost theirs. Mayor Jamai Itani says that the explosion was avoidable however he doesn't feel guilty as it is the government's responsibility and he didn't have the authority to do anything. Tom Tugendhat who is the chair of the foreign affairs select committee and lived in Beirut believes that the military support offered by Britain is limited.

Every single government official can stick a d*ck up their mouth. They're not doing ****. People are literally helping each other and removing each other from under the rubble. They're going to the city with their own house appliances to clean the streets and help provide shelter for the homeless. It's a f*cking circus here. I hope they all burn. They couldn't even provide electricity for the people working in the port to uncover the debris and look for bodies.

But for many Lebanese, the story is another sign of the chronic mismanagement of a ruling class that steered the country into a punishing economic crisis this year."

Actually, it's the customs' officials fault. First of all they were sending reports to the wrong judiciary members, and they DID receive many replies which they did not follow up with. They knew this was going to happen at some point and they knew how dangerous this material is, yet they chose to keep it there in hopes to eventually sell it to someone (someone they also specified in their letter). Even when a fire broke in the storage room 2 days ago, they didn't move a muscle to give the firefighters (who have died in the explosion by the way) the keys to the door to open the room and put the fire out. They had to break open the locks. There's a photo of that just before all hell broke lose. They literally did not give one f*ck and are playing this game to remove the blame from them and throw it on the judiciary system. The cherry on top: the director of customs at the Beirut port is part of a committee of investigation in the accident.

Hassan Koraytem and Badri Daher are both criminals and deserve to be punished.

Lebanon is corrupted to the bones and I don't know how the hell we're gonna move past this. People are still defending government officials and standing by them TO THE POINT WERE VOLUNTEERS WERE ATTACKED because they were chanting for a revolution. VOLUNTEERS WHO WERE CLEANING STREETS while the government and the Beirut municipality did NOTHING to help. Our government officials deserve to be hanged for what they've done to us for decades.

I wish the Riad Kobeissi video had English subtitles. His show explained everything as it needed to be. He presented all the right papers that prove the customs officials did nothing.
