25 Reasons to Support Joe Biden....

StarstruckIllusion

Soo, the few questionable good crumbs of his tragic record, lip service that goes against his values for the past 50 years, and the fact he’s felt an emotion once or twice...

Depends what kind of VP he was during the 8 years. To quote Trump saying to Hilary: "You Do Have Experience, But It's Bad Experience'"

Biden’s experience was helping the Obama administration expand liberty for the LGBT, pull out of the great Recession, and stand up for Dreamers. So, how is that bad? Sure maybe it wasn’t “enough” by our more progressive modern standards, but Biden’s work made way for lots of future progress.

I got drunk

A partial record of his experience at best. Biden's experience also includes voting for legislation that cut federal funding to schools that taught homosexuality as acceptable in 1994. He voted for the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996, one of the largest setbacks to LGBT rights. And in 1973 he said that homosexuals could be security risks, perpetuating the same attitude that caused the Stonewall riots. Biden is not a champion of equal rights. He sucks the dicks of voters as needed. That's all. Let's not act like he's some great equal rights figure who deserves a statue.

I care about the actual crimes being comitted by the Obama administration like Jailing Journalists, attacking whistleblowers, jailing civilians without a trial, creating a surveillance state, war crimes against Muslims, created slavery in libya, kicking people out of their homes to bail banks, destroying native americans land..

These are considered horrible things even by the standards of its time.

The only real reason to vote for him is that we have no other choice. So that was easy.

Reason 1: Biden’s Tax Plan

Biden’s unapologetic liberal tax plan would nearly double the tax rate for nonworking millionaires, aid the most vulnerable, be the most progressive tax code for generations, eliminate lower rates on dividends and capital gains for people making more than a million a year, and raise the top tax rate to almost 40%.  Boom!

His tax plan is less progressive than even Hillary Clinton's plan in 2016. So, it would not be the most progressive tax code for generations.

Reason 2: Biden and Gay Marriage

Biden was a leader on gay marriage.  He came out for it before Obama and forced Obama to embrace it before he would have otherwise.  Leaders at the time thought his public support helped sway voters in Maryland and other states to vote in gay marriage laws.  He has been an unwavering champion for the LGBTQ community.

He still voted for the Defense of Marriage Act. So, can we please not call him a champion for the LGBTQ community. You can call him an ally but he's certainly not the gold standard with regard to support for the LGBT community.

Reason 3: Biden’s FDR Sized presidency

We often don’t get the most progressive, productive presidencies from the most progressive candidates.  Instead, we get them from people who know how to get things done in the government and who are president at the right time.  There is reason to think that a Biden presidency will bring us just that — even Bernie thinks so!

Just because I like Bernie doesn't make Bernie right about everything. We'll get to why Biden is not anything like FDR as we go along.

58 minutes ago, TOSK said:

Reason 4: Biden is a mensch

Biden went to a memorial service for a woman who gave him just $18 every time he ran.  It was in the basement of a low income apartment and barely anyone was there.  His appearance was a surprise to the few people there and he made no effort to bring attention to himself.  There was no press there.  Why did he go?  Because he is a mensch (Yiddish for a good man — one who always tries to do the right thing by others). Imagine how great it would be to have a mensch as president!

Doesn't ****ing matter. I repeat. This doesn't ****ing matter.

58 minutes ago, TOSK said:

Reason 5: Biden has a great Covid-19 plan

Among other things, Biden’s plan would establish a public-private “pandemic testing board” to scale up and allocate testing across the country; create a state and local government emergency fund for medical supplies, hire more health care workers, provide overtime pay for certain essential workers;  eliminate cost-sharing for Covid-19 testing and treatment; and establish a national public health jobs corps, which would employ at least 100,000 people to do contact tracing.  AND he would always wear a mask and listen to scientists!!

His plan is the bare minimum.

59 minutes ago, TOSK said:

Reason 6: Biden ran the Obama economic recovery

The economy is a mess right now and President Biden is going to have his work cut out for him.  Luckily, he has done this before.  Biden fixed the mess our LAST Republican president left for us.  He oversaw a nearly $800 billion government-spending program involving more than 100,000 projects. People who worked with him said that he was enthusiastic, focused on details, and highly motivated to minimize waste and fraud.  He pushed for pro-worker provisions, green energy projects, and light rail.  He saved us before and he can, and will, do it again.

Yeah, the same economy that took years and years to recover because they helped banks instead of actual people.

59 minutes ago, TOSK said:

Reason 7: Biden’s Housing Plan is revolutionary

Biden’s housing plan is a progressive masterpiece.  It would cut child poverty by a third, narrow racial opportunity gaps, and potentially drive progress on the broader middle-class affordability crisis in the largest coastal cities as well.  It would be life changing for millions of low income and housing insecure households.

Let's see this plan and you can tell me how it's revolutionary when Bernie's housing plan was ACTUALLY a progressive masterpiece.

59 minutes ago, TOSK said:

Reason 8: Biden knows love and commitment

Very few people would do what Joe did — spending 4 hours a day in transit so that he could take care of his boys after his wife died (without uprooting their lives).  Biden did that because he understands commitment and deeply feels love

Doesn't ****ing matter. I repeat, this doesn't ****ing matter.

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 9: Biden knows exactly who Republicans are

During the primaries, Biden took a lot of flack for statements about how he would work with Republicans as president. But Biden was actually the voice of reason in the Obama WH pointing out to others that they wouldn’t get R votes for a lot of things.  Biden knows who Rs are.  He also knows that the never-Trumpers can help him get elected.  He isn’t naive — he is smart. He is letting never-trumpers know that they are welcome to help him get elected while still knowing who is actually likely to help us get good things done.  Joe Biden is not only a good, decent man who believes in our values, he is a smart one who knows how to get things done.

OF course he knows who they are. He sides WITH republicans more than any modern presidential candidate that has ran as a democrat. He will be so smart that he will sell republican lite to democrats.

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 10: Biden understands America

Biden talks about America as combining both the promise of a nation where all people have equal opportunity *and* the reality of a nation where we still struggle for equality. That vision is special because so many people only see one side of it.  Biden gets it.  “Our nation was founded on a simple idea: We're all created equal. We've never lived up to it — but we've never stopped trying... let's not just celebrate those words, let's commit to finally fulfill them.”  Biden has what it takes to lead America: he sees our promise and also how far we have to go.

Doesn't ****ing matter.

Reason 11: Biden will get progressive goals accomplished even more than Warren/Sanders would have

You often hear that people become more conservative as they age but I am convinced that is only true for close minded, selfish, or dumb people.  The best people get more liberal as they age because they are willing to learn from the new generations and new friends who were born into different worlds and thus see things differently.  Biden is one of those people and I love him for it.  Why will he get more done than Warren or Sanders would have?  He has the benefit of being seen by most people as a centrist so he can come in with one of the most progressive agendas we have ever seen and not scare people.

Doesn't verify. Sorry. And until there's a president warren or sanders, this is all conjecture and isn't a fact.

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 12: Biden has felt pain and found empathy

Biden has had a great amount of suffering in his life — losing a young wife and daughter in 1972 and then a son in 2015. How did he respond to that suffering?   It shaped him into the man of decency and compassion we see today. The suffering Biden went through led him to grow and develop amazing empathy, kindness, and purpose.  He is a good man and his decency is frequently on display

Doesn't ****ing matter.

Reason 13: Biden is responsible for the Violence Against Women Act

On June 20, 1990, then-Senator Joe Biden introduced the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in the United States Congress  Biden has called that law the legislation he is “proudest” of from his career in the Senate.  Biden recognized that violence against women, including domestic violence, was a real problem well before many of his peers.  This may seem obvious now, but Joe was ahead of his time in taking women’s lives seriously.

Which was also part of the crime bill that he helped write and ensured mass incarceration and a new era of Jim Crow was the law of the land.

Reason 14: Biden was endorsed by John Lewis

“I saw people arrested and beaten and jailed when attempting to register to vote. When we marched in Selma, more than 600 of us were beaten and jailed when we attempted to register. I gave a little blood on that bridge. I almost died. So, young people, just go out and vote and help elect a man of conscious, a man who will look out for each and every one of us and help build a society where no one will be left behind because of race color of skin and gender.  We need Joe Biden more now than ever before.”  John Lewis

Doesn't ****ing matter.

Reason 15: Biden will protect teacher’s unions

Very few Democrats show teachers’ unions the love and respect they deserve.  And forget about the Republicans — they have been true enemies of teachers’ unions.  Biden was endorsed by the two largest teachers union back in March.  In an address to delegates of the nation's largest teachers' union,  Biden promised that if he is elected president, teachers will have more say in how education decisions are made.  He was immediately panned by right-wing outlets like the WSJ and Bloomberg because everyone likes teachers in theory, but no one supports them or their union (one of the last standing powerful unions).  Biden will stand behind them which means standing behind teachers, public schools, students, and unions.

He will make sure those teacher's unions will have to fight hard every year to ensure they get quality healthcare because he doesn't support severing the tie between healthcare and your employer.

Reason 16: Biden will be a steady hand in the White House

We may all enjoy the excitement we get from candidates who get us worked up and passionate.  But what we need right now isn’t that — we are all plenty worked up.  We need a steady hand that knows how to get things done and isn’t showy or flashy or controversial.  Biden is just what we need right now.

More and more platitudes that don't ****ing matter.

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 17: Biden cares about people in the dawn and twilight of life

Hubert Humphrey once said that “the moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped.” Joe Biden will be a great president because he passes the moral test of government.  And he passes it with flying colors. Biden has a $775 billion plan for universal preschool, child care and elder care

Sure does have "empathy" but certainly not for young people. Oh, and his ongoing support to cut social security shows he doesn't care about old people either.

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 18 Biden has a great economic plan

Biden’s economic plan destroys the “rich people first” mentality of trumpism with a plan that benefits the people of the United States.  Biden’s economic plan is well thought out, researched, comprehensive, and just right for this moment.

He doesn't want to increase taxes on anybody making less than 400K. Hillary Clinton and Obama didn't want to raise taxes on anybody making less than $250. Anyone who has a progressive or "great" economic plan might want to consider a steeper progressive tax law than that.

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 19: Biden would yank the Keystone XL Pipeline permit

Joe Biden would rescind President Donald Trump’s permit allowing the Keystone XL oil pipeline to cross the border into the U.S., a move that would effectively kill the controversial project.

Call me skeptical but I will believe it when I see it.

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 21: Biden introduced the first climate bill ever

In 1986, Biden introduced the Global Climate Protection Act, the first climate change bill in the Senate. With so much else going on, it is easy to forget that we are ALSO in a climate crisis.  But Joe Biden hasn’t forgotten.  Biden has intertwined plans to save the earth with his plans to save the economy and our health. Not only does he care about the climate now, but Joe Biden was among the first to sound the alarm.

He's so effective at climate legislation that he never got it passed either and had the worst climate change plan during the primaries. We really know this is a priority for him, huh?

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 22: Biden is a man of Character

Character is about what you do when no one is watching. Joe Biden does the right thing again and again and again because he genuinely cares for people.

More platitudes that don't ****ing matter.

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 23: Biden Has Plans to Save the Planet

Biden’s plan is the green new deal in all but the name.  The plan marks a clear shift by Biden toward progressives' goals of urgently reducing fossil fuel consumption to combat climate change.

Biden's plan is not the green new deal. It's better than what it was during the primary but it's not the green new deal.

1 hour ago, TOSK said:

Reason 24: Biden has a great healthcare plan

Biden’s plans are more aggressive than they sound, featuring a Medicare-administered public option.   This is all a formally race-neutral agenda, but given the realities of American economic life, it amounts to not just a game changer for low-income households but a significant blow to the systemic economic gaps between Black and white Americans.

Yeah, can't wait for the public option that will split the risk pool and have premiums gradually go up until the public option is bankrupt because when you split the risk pool the way his plan does, it cannot be solvent.
