Gaga calls herself bisexual, what makes it okay to erase that?

Time and time again Gaga has referred to herself as a bisexual woman without fault and as recently as earlier this year. Why does that keep being questioned? Why are gay men so obsessed with dictating who is and isn't LGBT enough for them? Must she provide a DNA test? A list of the women she stuck her tongue in? A state-issued document where some high and mighty authority decides that she's in fact bi? Will that be enough? Will anything ever be enough?

This is the excerpt from the interview she gave to the magazine Tribu from their 2020 issue #245. It may still be up for sale if you doubt the veracity of this.

"More importantly, I am bisexual myself! I always said it and never hid it, so I am an integral part of this great community."

Let's start doing what we do to bi people to gay men too, shall we?

You haven't posted a picture of yourself kissing a man this month I'm starting to doubt you're even gay...

You didn't mention the fact that you were gay at this event where your sexuality is completely unrelated, I think you're straight and faking it for attention.

Why don't you tell me every detail of your sex life even though we just met just so I can be REALLY sure that you're gay?

But of course bi people don't ask you these questions. Because your word is enough for them and they don't need to act like inconsiderate creeps to take your sexuality seriously.

What makes it okay to do this to the woman this website is supposedly dedicated to? Even after she explicitly referred to herself as BISEXUAL? It's not a scary word, it's not a myth. It's very much real and every time one of you erase it you're erasing a bisexual user that comes here and that just wants to exist without being invalidated.

It's 2020. Get a grip and have some respect. Gaga's been fighting for LGBT rights for over a decade. It's the least she deserves.

I know so many girls just like her who get ****ing BULLIED out of queer spaces because they're not "gay enough" for lesbian spaces or "queer" enough for gay spaces.

My drag Haus is MOSTLY cis/transfemme women because I genuinely cannot stand the way cisgays are

I think, to a degree, there is some lack of understanding around sexuality. A person’s sexual orientation is not limited exclusively to who they date and sleep with. It also simply includes the feelings of attraction towards people of a certain gender - romantic attraction, sexual attraction, even if the feelings aren’t, for whatever reason, acted upon. A bi woman could go her entire life never sleeping with or dating another woman, but she is still equally bi because of the feelings of attraction she experiences.

Edit - I don’t remember ever seeing this interview you shared. Thanks!

I'm a femme bisexual like Gag. When I go to my hometown's singular lesbian bar, I stick out like a femme thumb and the only straight dude in the whole joint always smells me like a jackal and bothers me all night :neyde: Thanks for sticking up for us

My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <3

I'm quite exhausted, frankly, of people using the word erase as a reason to get outraged.  As though it's some evil plot to "erase" and diminish bisexual people, or whoever or whatever is being "erased"

Erase

Erase

Erase

It's one of those buzzwords that becomes over used when people find it sounds like a good method of cancelling someone, or attacking culture in general.  As though having the word transforms not having a woke understanding into a crime.

MORE LIKELY, it was just by someone who hasn't ever seen Gaga in a relationship with a woman and after "Nebraska Guy", Taylor Kinney, Bradley Cooper, The old one, Michael - Pokerface was just not enough of a reminder because whoever said it just doesn't spend their timing thinking about what sexes Gaga is or is not interested in.  Just because YOU may have a never ending interest in defining and defending sexuality and gender - or whatever - does NOT mean EVERYONE else needs to.  There are so many hours in a day, so we're all limited by how many and which things to give a **** about.

It's like a subject I don't care about - sports - I might talk about a hockey player and then a fan goes

"He was on the BASEBALL team in high school.  Why is it ok to erase baseball?"

No offense to the OP, but I'm so tired of using vocabulary to attack others for the supposed crime of not being adequately woke.

I'm a bisexual guy, and get told quite a bit that I don't really like guys, or I don't really like girls. I'm just "confused". I like guys, and women. It's as simple as that. No explanations needed :bear:

I understand why some people question her sexuality

Lgbtqia people have faced and still face bigotry and prejudice and  it's  kind of hurtful when sexuality is used as a marketing scheme in the music industry because the real people that have to face the real struggles of being lgbt are left feeling like "how can she just choose to identify as what i exist as ".

But still, no one has the right to speak on another persons sexuality , you don't need a signed document from a doctor proving you are gay . Everyone should be free to identify  as what they choose without scrutiny

What i'm about to ask by no means undermines Gaga's bisexuality. I read somewhere here that she only likes women sexually and not romantically this is perhaps why she has never dated a woman, that's why some people think her being bisexual is invalid and even if she's both romantically and sexually into women I won't force her to date women she has the right to do whatever she wants. Some gays have this biphobia  because some bisexuals whom are out have never dated men so in some way they don't have it as hard as gays do you get what I mean? And this fear is emphasized when bisexual people date the same gender but end up with the opposite to fit the social norms and not deal with homophobia and this happens alot, especially among women, that's why alot of lesbians are biphobic so this is why alot of gays are biphobic when it comes to stuff like this and it really sucks because not all bisexuals are like that and again I am by no means putting hate on bisexuals, they're free to do whatever they want and i'm not generalising anything I love my bi babies. All in all, sexuality doesn't matter as long as you find the right partner I hope what I wrote made sense and please if I said anything wrong correct me

You being uncomfortable with a term doesn't make it less true. Facts don't care about your feelings etc.

I wrote a post on how Gaga's sexuality is ERASED. Yes, erased. I used the E word. Whoops. And instead of being bothered by that you were bothered that I questioned biphobes on their commitment to being disrespectful.

You only have to go as far as the Billboard thread to have your arguments disputed. I'm not gonna alter my language because it makes you face the reality of the world instead of living in your echo chamber.

She doesn't have to prove anything. What would be the reason for her lying about her sexuality? To sell more albums? Come on, her fans are mostly gay men since her beginnings, she has no need to do that, and she has done a lot of work for the community. If she says she's bisexual, then she is. That's all.

You seem very willing to understand the actual point and not at all to be arguing in bad faith. Have a good one, don't cut yourself on that edge.

She's done so much for the LGBTQ+ community. I don't get why she has to prove anything to anyone.

If she's happy dating men, well it's her choice. And no one should be able to protest against that. You date who you like.

Remember, friends: if someone says they are bisexual, that means that they are bisexual! No amount of caveats or history of dating and sex will change what they are.
