Now, I wish she would get a cabinet position (her senate seat is Safe D either way). When it's her turn, I would be with her 100%. Now, Joe needs to pick a black woman imo. Black turnout will be lower than usual for Joe Biden if he doesn't pick a black woman and black people need to be heard for helping democrats for such a long time. Just my opinion. LilyLark 10,213 Posted July 28, 2020 Share Posted July 28, 2020 I LOVE Warren...but I can definitely see the downsides (her age, the fact that she's white when multiple politicians have encouraged Joe to pick a WOC, she's from MA, etc.). Not only that, Trump's only campaign trick so far is to screech about how Joe is old and how he'll die in office (the man's old but not on the verge of death, it's ridiculous) and some "socialist" VP will take over. Unfortunately, Warren would be an easy cudgel to use in those type of attack ads. Duckworth is sort of "safe," a WOC, and has the whole Midwestern element. By safe, I mean all factions of the party are sort of okay with her unlike Harris (who inspires vitriol from progressives despite being more progressive than Duckworth). Moreover, you know Trump would say something ridiculous to her in the debates as @PartySick mentioned. Karen Bass is interesting. She used to be my rep, and she's a great progressive who has a lot of experience. At the same time, a lot of establishment and more moderate Dems like her too. She's very good at avoiding "gotcha" questions too. I believe in defunding the police, but I also know it's political suicide for most politicians (there really should have been a better slogan) to agree on it. Even Bernie won't commit to it. There have been a few interviews with Karen recently as she's big on police form and she dodged multiple attempts by interviewers to get her to commit to defunding the police. The downsides with Karen though are she was way too kind when Castro died (which will hurt in FL), her age, and her lack of name recognition. My politics lean more Warren/Bass....but I feel like Bass and Duckworth, despite being ideologically different, would be the best bets for Biden. However, I suspect he's going with Harris. Aside from the fact that she'd be taken out of the senate, I do think she'd be a smart choice and effective at helping Biden peel even more undecided voters away from Trump. She'd also be an ok choice to take the torch and run in 2024 if Biden decides not to go for reelection.
