Maybe you need to learn how to grow up a little. I’d, with my nose held high, vote for literally Rashida Talib and Noam Chomsky (whom I both strongly disagree with on all issues) over Donald Trump. Because that’s how important this election is. But sure, throw your little pissing party because you can’t grow up and accept the results of the primary. Joe Biden is not “my candidate”, he is OUR NOMINEE. I just figured I would humor you since you think a vote for the Green party is a vote for Trump (which is nonsensical to its core). If you disagree with Rashida and Noam on all issues, then you're a republican, not a democrat. Biden isn't my candidate. He isn't my nominee. The democratic party isn't entitled to my vote. And if they aren't going to stand up for the platform I agree with, I'm not voting for it. Simple. As. That.

President Biden 5,898
I have to laugh. Someone who is voting for the Green Party is going to tell me I’m “not a Democrat”. The irony is uncanny But if you care that much, yes I am not a Democrat. I registered for the sake of voting in the primary for Joe Biden because I care that much about beating Trump and restoring our country to a moderate vision. I am an independent and my loyalty is not to the “Democratic establishment cult”. I didn’t support Hillary in the last primary for that reason. But I’m also not a progressive. Because politic are complicated like that. but please, tell me how I’m the villain by supporting the only candidate with a viable possibility of being Donald Trump in the general election. I never said you were a villain. I do think that you're incorrect for saying that the only candidate with a viable possibility of beating Trump is Biden. The only reason that would be true is if people convince themselves they cannot vote for what they want. And if the only reason you are voting for Biden is to vote against Trump, then I don't understand what you're so quick to dismiss my very valid policy oriented disagreements with Biden's version of the democratic party. Same guy who voted for the patriot act. Same guy who tried relentlessly to cut social security benefits. Same guy who stood with credit card companies over working people because it was good for Delaware. Same guy who voted for the Iraq war. Same guy who wrote the crime bill. I mean the only legislative item that Biden got right may have been the violence against women act. And that one thing does not diminish all of the other valid issues with him. And for you to say that there's so much daylight between Biden and Trump is just not true. The Biden that you see on political ads and the way people talk about Biden on MSNBC may be worlds apart from Trump but when you compare RECORDS, there really isn't THAT much different between Biden and Trump. Not as commander in chief and not as a governing politician.

I wouldn't disagree with your take here if it weren't for the fact that the progressive left has always voted for the lesser evil only to have those leaders either capitulate to the party or to disappear all together. And for the record, the most agreeable candidate for a progressive would be the Green party. I know so many people are so ingrained that there are only 2 options for president but that's just not reality. That is what people perceive as reality because of the way the system is set up. I understand the idea of trying to work with the democratic party and taking the loss and moving on; however, how long are we going to continue to vote blindly for a moderate democrat who doesn't support the vision for the world that we do before enough is enough? As I said in another thread, the democrats began talking about single-payer healthcare as early as JFK. It's been nearly a lifetime and we still don't have a single payer healthcare system, pay the highest amount per capita in healthcare and have a democratic nominee and platform committee who will not support medicare for all even though more than a majority of the party voters want medicare for all. I would be interested in hearing your reasoning on why you are going to vote for Biden and how you feel about rewarding a party that is what it is with you vote. In an ideal world, we'd have more parties than just the two we're stuck with right now, and in an ideal world, I'd probably vote for someone else besides Biden, but the fact of the matter is that we're not living in an ideal world. If you feel like voting for a different party is the right thing to do because it alligns more with your values, like I said, that is 100% your prerogative and I cannot stop you from doing that. However, it is my opinion that I think not voting or voting for a third party is more of something of an ego boost than something that actually does something productive. Even though I know it sounds like it, please don't take offense to that statement. I'm not targeting you directly. This has nothing to do with you as a person. However, that is just what I believe. In the world we live in (today), third parties are just not going to do enough substantially to persuade the government. Now...is the government corrupt? Hell yeah. Is the US government fundamentally flawed? Yup. However, out of the two parties we have, one is certainly better than the other. I'm not voting for Biden because it's Biden. I'd 110% rather have Bernie Sanders as our nominee, but that's just not the reality we live in. I could go on about how establishment Dems ruined Bernie's chances at victory (yet again), but that's a different discussion that I think you and I would agree with. I'm voting for Biden because he's much better than Trump. Call it what you want, "lesser of two evils" or whatever, but I do genuinely believe that Biden is a much better candidate than Trump. He lines up with my values (RELATIVE TO TRUMP) and honestly, if given another 4 years, Trump will literally tear this country apart. The US cannot stand 4 more years of what he's done. We just can't. The only problem I see personally is that 4 years of Biden almost assuredly means 4 years of his VP candidate as well. Biden is not going to push for the green new deal or climate reform at a level sufficient to save the planet. So, it will push the progressive movement (to the extent there is one at this point) back 8-16 years. That's just not acceptable to me. I entirely agree that a donald trump presidency would be terrible to endure again; however, I am still firmly in the belief that so long as the dems keep the house and flip the senate that a Trump presidency is something we can endure for 4 more years. In the mean time the progressive grassroots would need to do a hostile take over of the party at large in order to get the climate change reform moving at a pace that would sufficiently get us to zero net emissions and preventing the temperatures from rising too quickly, etc. etc. Either way, whether Trump wins or Biden wins that is a cost we are going to have to deal with and both paths that lead to Biden or Trump will lead to enormous costs, thousands, maybe millions dead and a complete upheaval of our society. Well, I suppose your concerns are about who he chooses for his VP as well. Let's wait and see who he chooses. I do agree that whoever his VP is, that will be Dems top priority for who will "lead" the Democratic Party in future elections, but since he hasn't publicly spoken about who his VP pick is, I think we have to wait and see before we can make certain judgments. Even if Dems keep the House and flip the Senate, those are two variables that cannot necessarily be accounted for. To ensure that that happens we have to vote, and we must vote Democrat. And even if that happens, I wouldn't be quick to say that we'd just be able to endure 4 more years of Trump. Even if we get the House and the Senate, this president has shown that he holds the law to no regard. Sure, right now he's got the backing of the Senate, but depending on how much we can flip the Senate and by how much we can keep the House, Republicans in both chambers will still fight like hell, especially if Turmp is still president. I'd much rather have Dems keep the House, take the Senate, and then take the presidency as well. Republicans have gone too far and I want as little power for them as possible. As for the Green New Deal and climate change reform, I agree that that should be a top priority for every politician, but voting for the Green Party isn't necessarily going to change that. Third parties today just don't have the power necessary to make those changes. At least with Biden, he and Bernie have worked some things out. I'm not saying Biden is 100% for anything even remotely similar to what Bernie has proposed in the psat, but he's at the very least going to be better than Trump when it comes to climate change.
