Smile delayed to August 28th, Katy to do “Smile Sunday’s” every week

She explained the reason for the delay right from the bat, it makes sense, and she's gonna serve content in place of it.

What's the point of doing this? We've seen it recently with so many artists, from Justin Bieber to 6ix9ine and now Katy as well. It's not normal promo trying to make a song a hit, it's an attempt to secure as many #1s as possible, even if it only stays there 1 week and the record is a flop on all other metrics.

 

What does Katy, or her record label gain by having Smile debut at #1 instead of #2, #3 or outside the top 10, if the sales and streams do not change?
