Frankenstein 245
Imagine it. No leaks, no announcement. Just the Stupid Love + Rain On Me video released alongside the entire album. The effect of the album would have been much bigger with the shock of Gaga's big dance return being delivered in one punch.
OMonster 14,675
I agree, for sure. I think the pre-album 'campaign' diluted the era and frustrated a lot of fans. The leaks, the lack of investment, the lack of promo... all of it, it soured the era in some ways. subtext / fantasy
KatieJudasGaga4 67,907
Tbh, I don't think Chromatica would've worked as a surprise drop
paradox 4,568
only because it then wouldn't have been "delayed"
Born in Chromatica 7
I mean it would have been interesting if Gaga did surprise us with Chromatica, and the reaction. Though I’m not sure how it would have gone though FaShIoN iS mY pAsSiOn!

Killa 17,465
I think lately her releases suffer from the hype, or the weirdness of the hype. In the sense, theres lot of hype but she tries to keep it lowkey, it drags a bit and fans get exhausted. But, im not sure it would really work on her favour. More so joanne, not chromatica unless there were tons of interactive promo like some game collab, an streaming special for netflix etc

It would allow Gaga to escape the expectation of big promo or elaborate singles campaigns, since, once the album is out, people can't really expect much in the streaming era. A surprise drop would essentially let Gaga cut off the pre-album stuff she is less interested in now, whilst 'saving' the fanbase from meltdown after meltdown about single promo, performances, ect, ect. Releasing the album and being 'done with it' avoids all of those things right from the bat, and doesn't set anyone up for disappointment. subtext / fantasy

Releasing the album and being 'done with it' avoids all of those things right from the bat, and doesn't set anyone up for disappointment. The thing is, a lot of people would still complain. "I'm a little monster because I've always loved her eras" and there isn't much of an era if she were to drop the album and disappear. At least we had a couple of weeks of excitement before she went silent and then postponed everything. I think corona and human rights issues have just soured the entire experience for her. As I've mentioned before, she seems to be very superstitious. She had compared her eras to losing people she loves, and now whenever she picks up album promo for Chromatica some sort of world event happens. I don't think she didn't want to do promo before, I just think she was being kicked when she was already down.
Frostken 929
It should've been a suprise drop visual album Less pressure on Gaga to do performances and the fanbase would've eaten it up
dzox 552
um.... its a no for me. chromatica is an album full of potential radio hits. by releasing the whole album with no single out none of the singles will chart high. its hard these days to have successful singles after the album out. my idea if she wants to release a surprise album.... try with an album with ASIB type of ballads
