i think it's actually more the tension between what gaga wants and what the label wants

gaga wanted judas, label likely wanted teog

gaga wanted venus, label liked what they saw with dwuw

gaga wanted million reasons, label wanted a-yo

i don't think it's this whole "omg look it's a surprise hit!! who would've thought??" thing like people portray it. TEOG and DWUW both SCREAM hits, there's no way they were unaware of their potential.

i have a feeling she started to get more control after she pushed (and won) for alejandro as the 3rd single, and so then you get situations like with Venus and MR where she's fickle and changes at the last second

she's a great writer, performer, musician, and actor, but not the greatest strategist or executer of her vision

Actually, she wanted Scheisse, but her team wanted Judas. After all the controversy, TEOG was released

Judas is her best song, but I'm glad TEOG became a single. It saved the era :flutter:

That’s because she has so many great songs that it’s hard to pick which ones should be released as singles. :whitney: Imagine being Gaga and not just a basic popstar who gets 3 hit songs written by other people then an album filled up with average songs just to be able to sell something.

No but for real, she has a team of people who have to plan these things. Sometimes they don’t expect backlash from radio (Judas) or have unexpected success (Edge of Glory, Do What U Want, Million Reasons). But to be fair all of these songs have been successful so I don’t think they’ve messed up to be honest.
