I expected his involvement to pack more of a punch. I am happy with how Plastic Doll turned out because it's perfect to me but when I learned that he produced the track I was shocked because it doesn't sound like it has his stamp on it.

Same. I thought it’d actually sound more like 911 with the electronic sounds.

Personally, the quality of the production is up to par with what Sonny is capable of. I wish the song was a lot darker, and heavier. I think that's where he really shines in his production. Maybe we'll get a remix from him this era?

I’m honestly disappointed that it wasn’t dubstep (I’m still living in 2012)

Totally agree! It sounds really well done but it was a little too bright and bubblegummy for me which I imagine is supposed to be ironic or w.e but it would've been so much better if it had that grit and edginess that I love about skrillex

A remixed ver of album would be amazing :enigma:

I was most excited for Plastic Doll but it's my least favorite on the album, I was hoping for something more gritty/dirty/otherwise dubstep inspired sound :noparty:

Melodic Dubstep and Melodic Bass are (mostly) still doing very well in the indie realm.

This is one thing very interesting on her collabs, we always get expectations on how it’s going to be based on their styles and she just comes with different things. We would recognize easily a production from her old or long time collaborators but not with 90% the of those “one time” ones.
I think she made to get a very good work with BloodPop in Chromatica, which is quite different from what they had in Joanne and it just shows how she can manage and brings what she wants easily.
I really liked Plastic Doll since the beginning and I have a feeling that she wanted to bring some The Fame nostalgia on its production with kinda of an Skrillex “up leveling” which is very well done imo.

Thank god it doesnt sound like any of his other crap lol

You must only be familiar with his cliche stuff from, like, 2011 then lol Because he's a *super* diverse producer

I LOVE Plastic Doll and will defend it from haters to my grave.

That being said I can’t help but wishing we got to hear a little more of that experimental, exciting Skrillex we know he can deliver. They made an excellent, albeit safe pop track (which totally works and which I love) when they could’ve made something really outside the box.

It was the same thing with david guetta and will.i.am with Fashion!

I personally feel like I hear it in the bass and drum programming. I think. It's so much more distinct and sharp, compared to the rest of the album, which has a rounder, fatter tonality in its percussion and bass.

I think the overall sound of Plastic Doll (maybe 911 also) is so much more distinct than the rest of the album, in that it eschews any of the house-inspired or 80's synthpop inspired (SL) factors.

That's just what I think I hear!

3 points in and ready for more
