I don't think is Joanne is hated overall.

I personnally don't like it as much as her other albums. Just a question of taste what I love in Lady Gaga's music.

Her grammy says hello. Joanne helped in reestablishing her career and was inspired by her pain and acting career. It created a whole new fanbase.

I loved it.

Becaise it's different, that's it.

The album is full of demos but that's not the reason

Lol the album didn't win a grammy itself, and let's not say it created a whole new fanbase lmao, it's no Cheek To Cheek or A Star Is Born

But yeah it kinda helped her I guess, more or less, but it was a personal album that she needed to release

Don't know why people hate it but you will get plenty of people explaining why.

The thing is i love it and that's what matters to me. It's sad at times but fun and still very danceable and that's my Gaga perfect combo.

Sonically and thematically, the album is all over the place. She goes from a song in tribute to her aunt, to a song about masturbation. Both are great, but they are strange to have on the same record named after the former. It’s jarring as it jumps from psychedelic pop-rock to folksy Americana, modern pop, then power ballads. She should have kept it more cohesive, like Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour and Taylor’s Folklore.

Because literally The Fame, Monster, Born This Way, ARTPOP and now Chromatica are all dance albums. Obviously if you’re a fan of Gaga’s, most of us are drawn to her dance music. Joanne was just too different, too un-Gaga. Experimentation is great but All five of her other albums are at one end of the spectrum and then there’s Joanne.

It is right now my favourite album of Lady Gaga. Its so earthy, warm and melancholic. It has so much pain but also hope in it. It really is a special work in pop world and will get some day cult status.

I liked Joanne, but I was disappointed because until Chromatica, my rankings for the albums were:

Born This Way > The Fame Monster > ARTPOP =Joanne  > The Fame

...so to me she didn't surpass ARTPOP (which I also liked), and that was a disappointment to me because I was hoping she would.

Perfect Illusion is one of my favorite Gaga songs and I expected the rest of the album to sound like that.

ARTPOP had the same affect on me, because it wasn't as good as Born This Way or The Fame Monster to me.

people assume it's bad because it was influenced by country music and soft rock. or people assume its a country record, and most people who consume pop music believe rock or country are "bad" or "outdated" genres and don't give them a chance.

plus gaga's whole vibe was less of her crazy gaga vibe that era, she was very toned down and more stefani than gaga. i personally love joanne and see it as her bedtime stories era, a much more intimate look at her life and her story behind being lady gaga which is wonderful. i really hope she does a self titled album in the future that does the same thing,

I personally really enjoy the music and message behind Joanne, but there's only a few songs that I listen to regularly. Majority of the album just didn't connect as I think she had intended.

Another factor that I don't think anyone has brought up is Gaga's inspiration for making the album changed. All of her other albums were more about making dance pop music or music that her gay fans would enjoy (from early on in her career, she's stated how she would be nowhere without her gay fans and their undying support of her music)

But with Joanne, she was struggling with the aftermath of ARTPOP, and now we know she was also just somewhat "over" bring a popstar. So she made an album for her dad, and hoped that it touched out people's lives. I think it did...but there are several things on or within the album that doesn't translate well to everyone:

Her vocals (super raw and because her voice is so strong, the vocals are jarring at some points within the album)

The production (image of the album is very singer songwriter, the production is still very clean and pop. As if she didn't go all the way. )

The lyrics/songs themselves (some of them just don't deliver or go halfway. Some are confusing {like Sinners Prayer} and some seem random {DIC on the same album as Joanne?}

The visuals (the videos {with the exception of John Wayne} were very lackluster. I felt like majority of people had no idea what connected these songs or why she chose those 3. I got it, because I'm a superfan and read more into it. But the visuals as a whole were a miss)

I have tons to say because I find it fascinating how polarizing this album is. But I won't bore you with all that :lana:
