Was it a great album? Was it a spectacular album? No, you meant it was a bad album. Stop trying to win with technicalities when we know what you meant You literally said in this same quote that "it has no replay value." You think it's a terrible album. That's *your opinion,* is it not? I don't think Taylor's writing is bad at all, but I just don't understand how you could say that Gaga's better only at writing repetitive pop music Go listen to Chromatica and Born This Way. Those two albums alone have some of the best lyrics I've ever heard. Then listen to more albums Hottie Detector

Pray4FameGa 3,141
Chromatica is extremely experimental. Its just so high quality and polished that you can’t tell. I think it’s Gaga’s best album. I just think her whole persona lately of acting like she’s above music and she’s an advocate of all things overshadows it and is cringey tbh. Just shut up and serve for once. NFRatwell 23,290
Gaga limits herself. Her solo albums have literally been: Dance-pop Dance-pop Dance-pop Dance-pop Pop ft Dance-pop Dance-pop She couldn’t even commit to the “raw” and personal sound she proposed Joanne was. And when she does actually explore other music she needs someone else like Tony or Bradley to give her a reason to.

Taylor is a master at writing, her songs are very complex where Gaga is more repetitive. I agree with you on that, there’s tons of sub genres in dance-pop and if she wanted to she could keep putting out different sounding dance-pop albums for the rest of her career. But if you’re a musician who prides yourself on being trained in rock, jazz, classical music, etc. but the only solo albums you’ve put out have been pop Meanwhile you have someone like Taylor, who’s put out 3 1/2 country albums (yeah I’m gonna include Red as a mix between pop and country) 3 1/2 pop albums, and now just released an alternative album. There’s a clear growth there to me.

I was like huh..but then...wait, that's kind of accurate. Joanne's more soft rock meets country with some poppy elements, but PI, Dancin In Circles, John Wayne are definitely straight up pop and Just Another Day sounds like an Elton John song. Joanne would have been way more cohesive imo if it had entirely been in the vibe of Diamond Heart, Sinner's Prayer, Joanne, Million Reasons, Grigio Girls, etc.

Taylor's is more storytelling lyricism. Those are the spaces they occupy in the pop music industry, basically. One's not better or worse, and both are great writers, but they just do *VERY* different things and write *VERY* differently. Even the closest comparison, which would be Yoü and I or TEOG (in terms of storytelling lyrics from Gaga), they are PACKED with hooks. Like I said, they just occupy different spaces. It's great and I love it, but there is nothing remotely experimental about the music lmao like idk what music you listen to that you would call it that. I can think of a lot of words, great words, to describe Chromatica, but experimental would never come up lol This music is pretty straightforward stuff even if well done lol That was probably the point of the album: something that was good but not overly ambitious that might turn people off. It's a solid return to dance-pop, but let's not pretend it's more than what it is lol Sour Candy even samples the same beat as a million other dance-pop songs including Swish Swish. This is pretty standard gay bar/club music. Again, solid and pleasant, just not revolutionary or experimental.

Nothing wrong with not re-inventing the wheel. 911 is the only track I'd call experimental...well "parts" of Sine from Above, too, I guess. Rina is "arguably" experimental...but Twigs is the only big or semi-big name artist right now I can think of who is truly experimental. Just because something is not the most GP friendly/broadly mainstream doesn't necessarily equal "experimental" imo...music can appealing or mainstream to a particular type of audience (as in Chromatica's case, club/electronic/etc.). I think Chromatica was made (and she's basically said it, too) to be played in the clubs...particularly the gay clubs. The sales were strong despite everything going on & the genre, but if it had come out in a COVID-19 free world I think it would have easily broken 300k (it wasn't that far off) because every club would be playing 911, Replay, and ROM.
