Webb7 438
The US Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Defense announced on Wednesday a $1.95 billion agreement with Pfizer to produce 100 million doses of a Covid-19 vaccine in the United States. The deal also allows the US government to acquire an additional 500 million doses. The initial 100 million vaccines will belong to the federal government, although the vaccine will need emergency use authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration to be distributed. The vaccine developers, Pfizer and BioNTech, still need to complete a large Phase 3 clinical trial to show the vaccine effectively protects people from the coronavirus. https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/22/health/pfizer-covid-19-vaccine-government-contract/index.html
VasilisVas 5,213
Interesting. If this vaccine works I would really surprised. Usually takes a year or so for vaccines, but maybe with currently technology they were able to move things along quicker. Who knows? Would be great if this works so this fiasco can finally come to an end!!
MelbHawker 6,583
I'm reading quite a few articles about vaccines commencing 3rd trials around the world and governments already placing orders well into the 10's & 100's of millions .. the wonders of modern medicine. It actually takes usually like 8 years the only year one is the flu because they just make small adjustments to an existing vaccine that’s been around for decades. the min reason this one is going fast is $$$ everyone and their dog is working on a vaccine and investing in research so coming up with something is much much quicker - just ... is it safe? Guess we will see as far as the US (allowed) “acquiring” 500 million do they expect this to require multiple doses? Because there’s not even close to 500 million people in the states Mr. No Award Winner 2020
