The very least that Bernie was able to do with the leverage he had from his supporters in the primary was to arrange "task forces" that would discuss policy issues. None of said task forces pushed Biden to take up any progressive policies. He literally has said that he would VETO Medicare for All in the middle of a pandemic where Americans are losing health insurance by the millions. It's more just that the VP pick needs to be strategic, someone from an area that can use a bump & from someone with a national profile. He's also not just picking a VP, he's picking someone they might try to run in 2024 & 2028, so there's more to it than normal politics. Having a more progressive candidate for VP was never really an option because it doesn’t guarantee any votes for him. America votes a lot more center right than we like to believe. Sure, left leaning candidates get momentum on twitter but when it comes to voting, left leaning candidates get snubbed by voters. Washington state is a pretty solid example. It’s a state that’s regarded as very “progressive” but isn’t really. Bernie had excellent showings in the 2016 caucus but Clinton and Biden still got more voters and it cost him the state this time around. Americans say they want change and say they support progressive policies but they just don’t vote for them. So it’s easy to see how a more centrist candidate has the upper hand now for vp pick. If she couldn't control her own city, there is no way she can control America. -Please not Susan Rice. I do not need Benghazi to be dragged out in the open once again. -I'm afraid I don't know much about Karen Bass to form an opinion of her. -I like Val Demings. I just know that her police record will be used against her. -I think Kamala Harris will be the safest choice. Harris has been criticized extensively for her time as AG of California, and Demings was a police chief. I'm not sure this will go over well with some parts of the Democratic base. I'd go with Karen Bass. Nothing wrong with it in itself but it kinda takes away from these women I think who end up being referred to as “the black women candidates” as if they are merely selected for representation reasons. When do we, as voters, start having higher standards for our politicians instead of voting them in based on appearance and then wondering why our American political system is just as corrupt as before?
