I am really trying to negotiate between the two parts, personally I am not pro Kosovo, but it's for the people of Kosovo to decide, yet I want to clarify of how wrong Dua was. So thank you for being reasonable enough! thank you so much! it is so rare to come across people who are willing to discuss things in such a mature and fair way. I love your balanced point of view Samee! If you were discussing this with local balkan people, this discussion wouldn't be a discussion, but more of bunch of insults coming from both sides, and it tends to get real messy

Serbs and Croats could've easily used this tactics as both ethnic groups survived multiple genocides against them.. FameMonster01 7,071
Just now, Hurem said: Can you elaborate why? I’m genuinely interested why people are against Kosovo being seperate from Serbia? Firstly I just wanna say that I'm fine with Kosovo being independent because the majority are now Albanians. But personally I'm not in favor of it for multiple reasons. 1) Kosovo has been tied with Serbian culture since late 1090's, in the period of 1090 until 1380 a lot of Serbian Orthodox churches were built, and the region was considered like Serbian " Holy See". The region was also place to 1389 battle of Kosovo that played a big role as Serbs lost it to ottomans. But even tho Kosovo was lost then, it still had majority of ethnic Serbs living in that area which leads me to the second reason 2) Population of Kosovo has since 1100's always been Serbs as the majority, until 1800's and balkan wars when multiple massacres were committed over the Serb population Anyhow, Serbs on Kosovo in 20th century still existed in bigger number than today, (25-20%) and of course still had strong ties to Serbia as it spent the whole Yugoslavia as a part of Serbia So it's no wonder that Serbs grieve Kosovo, they have strong cultural ties to it It's kind of like if Italy claimed Dalmatia as theirs, while Dalmatia is literally cradle of Croats and plays an important role to us ( Croats) But basically that's just why I would personally prefer Kosovo to be a part of Serbia, as it's been slavic for very much of its existence on the maps, but then again I'm fine with the current situation, I don't have a say

It is not worth it to argue over this topic. Fantina 3,357
This is a very tough topic to discuss as I don't have any info on what really happened. Being from Serbia It would be easy for me to just jump on the hate bandwagon and start pointing fingers but i seriously don't know. Most of this is caused by shitty politicians who force propaganda in both ways and accuse each other of war crimes. I was neither alive when this happened so I can't confirm or deny this. I loved Dua's music and I usually put artist's political views aside but in this case this is just adding fuel to the fire. She is doing what some politicians are. I really want to learn what actually happened and I always run into contradicting statements from both sides. Until then, this is Elvira saying unpleasant dreams. gag 22,449
No opinion on the actual situation but I think this is interesting AF. We always expect popstars to be neoliberals because the internet zeitgeist is really US-centric, so going against Trump has never been a controversial take (this is part of why it felt strange that Taylor Swift treated her political opinion like an album drop but I digress). Now, however, popstars cropping up globally means there's a chance to have extremely controversial views because the political situation around the world is a lot messier (less black and white) than the US. It's almost as if political discourse needs to be more nuanced and that is seldom attainable on social media. headspin, happiness, DE̤̣A̢̯͔̘T͏͙̗̟̫H̗̙͡ͅ
VenusUrania 675
If Serbia doesn't want to lose Kosovo, then they should've taken better care of them. It's not only a question of different nationalities, ethnicities, minorities, culture and history but also the economy. If you look at Kosovo as part of Serbia or even as an independet state, they're one of the poorest and underdeveloped regions in Europe, so it's understandable that they want to have their own government and policies to take the matters in their own hand. I agree with the fact that she shouldn't have posted the picture of Great Albania as means of national pride because it does send nationalistic, far right and even fascists messages to the international community. Similar flags exist for Great Serbia, Great Hungary etc. who also claim "historic" terrritories from other sovereign modern stated on accounts of historic presence of the concerned people. Every nation has its right to become sovereign which numerous international treaties and acts confirm. The only question is what are the motivations behind it and how it's going to get executed to bring and maintain peace in the region.

A lot of balkan countries have these * greater maps of its country*. Imagine what would happen if everyone began posting like that? If everyone thought that way? If every public figure promoted that way of thinking? There WOULD be wars
