alsemanche 93,923
Dua Lipa has posted on her Instagram story a series of photos explaining the situation in Lebanon and how viewers abroad can help. Lebanon has been going through a HORRIBLE economic crisis for a while now. Prices have increased tremendously and the currency has lost pretty much all of its value (the Lebanese Pound's exchange rate was pegged to 1,500LBP = 1$, now it's reaching 9,000-10,000LBP=1$). Shops are closing everywhere, people are losing their jobs, starvation is threatening a huge part of the population, and we genuinely don't know where we're going to end up in a couple of months. Inflation is hitting new records and famine is basically inevitable at this point. This is making marginalized groups' survival and livelihood even more precarious, especially when it comes to refugees and migrant workers. And COVID19 is obviously making everything so much worse. Everything is super unstable and it's getting really scary here. Here are the posts Dua linked. They contain links for donations as well (last slide). Butters Stotch 5,364
This is so sad. I'm Venezuelan and my country has been going through the same situation for almost a decade. The value of our currency went down, and the value of the dollar went up, people are currently earning like 3$ by month on a regular job, it's horrible. Luckily I'm not there anymore, but my father and some friends are still there and it literally is hell for them. Really hope Lebanon can get over this and things get better, because if not solved on time, this kind of crisis lead to people having to leave the country, like I did, because it's literally impossible to survive under those conditions, no matter how hard you work. lordgagx 5,466
Yep, this situation has been ongoing since October 2019. Some areas are totally deprived of electricity, relying on private generators. I get a headache whenever I go to the supermarket because the prices are just not it.

auburn 1,072
We're most likely headed for a Venezuela type situation. It's so depressing here. Suicides have been happening as well, and it's so terrifying.

It can hardly get worse if you go to a better developed country. Did you try to talk to your family about it? It might sound naive because I don't know your situation /life, but is it impossible that you AND your family move together?

I'm worried about them surviving (now that i think about it, grandpa has lots of land we can cultivate if things get that much worse so they're not actually gonna starve or anything) but i do not want their homophobic asses anywhere near my future life with my partner chaeri pls
